North Carolina Asks Supreme Court to Keep Voter ID for Now
Source: Associated Press
North Carolina government leaders have now asked the U.S. Supreme Court to restore a voter identification requirement and other voting rules for November's election. A lower appeals court recently ruled that a state law illegally restricted voting by black residents.
Gov. Pat McCrory's office said the state's lawyers filed their request Monday to delay last month's ruling. They want the photo ID mandate and other provisions back in place while they prepare a brief asking the justices to consider the issues more deeply.
A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the Republican-led General Assembly enacted the law with intentional discrimination in mind. Those judges already rejected a delay request.
The state's attorneys say North Carolina shouldn't be forced to scramble now to rework election plans.

If so, I think I heard that this request was going to go before Roberts.
