Latinos rally for Trump in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Chanting "Viva Trump," several dozen Latino supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a peaceful rally Sunday in front of Anaheim City Hall.

"He's the man," Marco Gutierrez, a co-founder of Latinos for Trump, said of the candidate. "He speaks the language of the heart. He can reach people who have been disenfranchised."

Although north Orange County has a large Latino population, only about 50 to 60 Latinos and Caucasians turned out for the 2 p.m. rally. There were no counterdemonstrations and no disturbances, according to police.

This was the first event that Latinos for Trump has held in Orange County, and Gutierrez said he was happy with the turnout.

They could only find 50 latinos in Anaheim? Not exactly HUUGE! Also, I wonder whether they were supportive of GOP efforts to suppress the Latino vote, which the MSM never discusses when talking about Trump's so-called outreach efforts.

Maybe these 50 or so were NOT undocumented immigrants. I know some Latino citizens that are opposed to having the undocumented immigrants coming in, so I tend to believe there will be a % of Latinos for Trump. My guess will be 25-30% will support Trump.

Just because someone gets Ben Carson and Dennis Rodman to show up to a Trump Rally doesn't make it a 'Rally of African American Voters' especially if the other 99% are White. I'd like to know how many were actually 'Latino' in that group of '50 or 60'.

There are, according to the 2010 Census, 1 million Hispanics in Orange County, CA - and most of them are Mexican or Central American (the very people Trump made a campaign out of denigrating).

For many years the only large minority group that voted reliably Republican were Vietnamese-Americans, primarily because the GOP did a very good job selling itself as the more "anti-Communist" party of the two (never mind that it was Nixon who threw South Vietnam under the bus, from a Cold War point of view).

Over time though, many (particularly younger Vietnamese-Americans) have come to realize that to the typical Republican all minorities are suspect and hopelessly undesirable. This is especially so in Orange County, where a large number of Operation Paperclip Nazis settled.

There are so many Hispanic folks in California - even just Orange County - and yet Trump is only able to rally 50 (probably mostly Cuban-Americans). And in Anaheim!

I lived in Orange Cunty and west L.A. for over a decade, and have lots of fond memories from So. Cal. (including downtown Pasadena and the Huntington Hotel). Such a pretty little city.

20. Old Californio families.

There are conservatives in California with Hispanic surnames - Castro, Carrillo, Dominguez, Nieto, Ortega, Peralta, Rivera, Romero, Rodriguez, Sepulveda - who came from the old Spanish land grant families in the late 1700's, early 1800's - who've always considered themselves white.
While they were often abused by the Americanos that eventually won California from Mexico, the old families that managed to hang on to their land grants long enough to start making money off the sale of those lands in the early 20th century grew very wealthy and pretty much abandoned their Hispanic heritage until it became convenient to be "Mexican American" again.
One of the reasons why there's a "white - Hispanic" category in most racial demographic questions.
