Trump campaign demands 'dinner with Trump’ super PAC cease and desist

Source: Politico

Donald Trump’s campaign sent a cease-and-desist letter on Monday to a super PAC unaffiliated with the campaign that has lured more than $1 million in donations by offering the Republican nominee’s supporters a chance at dinner with Trump, accusing the group of “defrauding” its donors.

Trump’s campaign also sent a letter to the Federal Election Commission, the nation’s election watchdog agency, disavowing the super PAC on the same day POLITICO revealed that the group had raised more than $1 million from 20,000 donors in less than three months.

...snip...

The letter was not posted to the website, dinnerwithtrump.org, where Hawes’ group has solicited email addresses — more than 410,000 as of Sunday — and donations but to americanhorizons.org. After the POLITICO story was published, the dinnerwithtrump.org website did add a new American Horizons logo at the top of its page.

While Hawes’ group is offering the chance to win “dinner” with Trump, the fine print of the contest shows that it is actually simply buying two tickets at “a Sponsor-selected fundraising evening event held with Donald Trump and other attendees.”

There is a chance that Trump will flip/flop, change his mind and have dinner with some of them.

That's all they are offering ---- a "chance".

It's more legitimate than Trump University.

If it's a legal 501c, it isn't required to have the permission of the candidate to operate. In fact, they are specifically denied the ability to coordinate with the campaign.

Kind of wondering why this hasn't happened before. The cherry would be if they come out with "pro" trump ads going way crazy alt right.

"Hey, I'm following our charter, and this is my idea of supporting the candidate".

I get these fund raising offers from the dnc and various campaigns all the time. "Dinner with Hillary"; yeah right, like I'd get to sit at the same table if I won. Aha.

The super pac is probably well inside the law. They will probably continue to operate. It's all about what they do with the money, and if it all goes to the production of web content, well, that's the point of the pac.

There is a reason Trump loves the uneducated.

You can't fix stupid.

Stephen Colbert showed that years ago. The person running it can pay themselves and they friends and family big salaries. They can spend money on exorbinant expenses like 5 star hotels, gourmet meals etc.

what is that old adage--"a fool (or drumpf supporter) and his money are soon parted"

I am only miffed because I didn't think of it first.
