Rudy Giuliani: ‘Democrats should apologize’ for calling Trump’s birtherism racist
Source: RawStory
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, an adviser for Donald Trumps campaign, on Sunday called on Democrats to apologize for calling the GOP nominee racist over his claim that President Barack Obama was born in Africa.
Following Trumps visit to an African-American church in Detroit over the weekend, CNNs Jake Tapper asked Giuliani if Trump should apologize to the black community for spreading the false birther notion that Obama was not an American citizen. Giuliani countered that Hillary Clintons 2008 campaign had started the birther movement and finally it was resolved after Donald Trump raised it.
They maybe have a faulty memory there, the former New York mayor said of the black community.
It was resolved in 2011 when he released his birth certificate, Tapper pointed out. Donald Trump talking about this as recently as February of last year at (the Conservative Political Action Conference), saying that he thinks the birth certificate is false. Should he just apologize for this if he really wants to reach out to minority voters?

(9,118 posts)True enough. Republican politicians feel compelled to run to the right of where they were even a few short years ago. It's not really a new phenomenon; they've been doing it for decades now. But it was one of the things that made me change my party affiliation from Republican to Democrat.

(14,174 posts)Like the segment of their voters they have resurrected from the backwaters of America. That he had dampened his real bigotry and racism and sexism in order to win the mayorship of NYC. That after decades of the GOP, Faux News, and hate radio crafting a large base of bigots and raving Hillary haters, and having have seen Trumps' success in tapping that segment they now finally think they can say what they've always wanted to say.

(9,118 posts)There is no reason why Democrats should apologize for accusing Trump and Trump--GOP of racism during the fraudulent Birther controversy, particularly considering their very different treatment of Ted "Calgary Kid" Cruz during the Republican primaries. President Obama was born on American soil to an American citizen-mother, so his citizenship should NEVER have been called into question. Ted Cruz, on the other hand, was the son of a foreign national born in the Dominion of Canada, and the matter of whether his US-born mother was in the process of becoming a Canadian citizen has never been satisfactorily explored by the US's lazy-#### lame-stream corporate media.
You don't have to be a full-bore ultra-progressive keeper-of-the-flame to see the implicit racism of the Birther campaign.

(10,252 posts)For whatever extreme RW opportunity arises after the election. Could be speaking fees, appointment to something in a Trump admin (not gonna happen, and he knows it), books (ghost written of course), a position on Breitbart web site, a position on whatever media outlet Ailes and Trump cook up, law fees to litigate RW lawsuits against HRC and defend RW state laws. Whatever looks lucrative. This man Guiliani is the very essence of depravity. Greed fueled by fear and hatred to achieve money and power at any costs. A man without any morals. The Republican party is a criminal conspiracy.

(37,160 posts)It was a handful of her supporters who couldn't accept that she lost the nomination and turned PUMA. One person sued in federal court to have Obama's nomination be disqualified. The suit was thrown out for lack of standing.
Clinton openly rejected the idea -- called it "ludicrous" -- and NO ONE in her campaign (nor anyone who was considered a responsible adult and/or had any standing in the Democratic Party) gave it any credence whatsoever.
In other words, it was a turdball that had been properly flushed into the septic tank where it belonged.
And then Trump (and the wingnuts he pays attention to) dug it out and waved it around like the odorous, drippy, squelching thing had any substance. Other Republicans flirted with it to court voters who did believe it. Only a handful had enough character to directly reject it.
So Rudy, Hillary didn't start it, some dead-ender cranks did. Perhaps you just reflexively assumed that the Democrats simply adopt notions that are dragged up from the sewers because that's what Republicans do.

"It is certainly interesting, and perhaps historically and politically relevant, that birther advocacy may have originated with supporters of Hillary Clinton especially since many view it as an exclusively right-wing movement. But whether those theories were advocated by Clinton and/or her campaign or simply by Clinton supporters is an important distinction. Candidates are expected to be held accountable for the actions of their campaigns. Neither Cruz nor Trump, whose campaign did not respond to our request for backup material, provides any compelling evidence that either Clinton or her campaign had anything to do with starting the so-called birther movement.

(4,168 posts)I don't see any evidence that Clinton was involved in the bogus birther charges, but I hadn't realized that it was actually some of her supporters that participated in that disgusting activity.
That is shameful behavior. Inexcusable.

Not only did he sponsor sending good people to Hawaii to check out
Obama's place of birth but when he was working with his dad's apartment
rental company they marked all black seeking to rent an aprartment
applications w/a paper w/a big C on it for colored and those people were
turned down for housing.
The base of Trump's support is 100% based on scratching the itch that
about 25 to 30% of Americans have and that is they are pissed off a
black man is POTUS.
I won't call it "racist". I'll call it "despicable".

How about him making a actual apology for repeatedly lying to the American public. How about this rudy you apologizing for supporting and enabling this nitwit and promise you won't do anything as stupid as that again. How about you apologizing for trying to scam America saying there were no terrorist attacks in America before Obama. And do you really hate America that much that you would want to wish him on us?

I have to say though, the msm has really cleaned up their act since the primary, I don't recall the last time their incompetence caused them to get caught on air collabrating with Trump.
