Donald Trump is a danger to national security because he actually encouraged Russia to hack Clinton's emails, Kaine explained patiently on ABC's "This Week," as the media focused on the FBI report "raising new questions" about Hillary Clinton's emails.

.........................Watch here:
On the other hand, weve got a candidate in Donald Trump who wont release his tax returns after he promised to do so, Kaine said.
And talk about national security, he (Trump) has openly encouraged Russia to engage in cyberhacking to try to find more emails or materials, and we know that this cyberattack on the DNC was likely done by Russia, Kaine continued.
Kaine said Trumps advocating for a hack on Clinton is very similar to the Watergate break-in that caused President Richard Nixon to be impeached and ultimately resign.
A president was impeached and had to resign over an attack on the DNC, during a presidential election in 1972. This is serious business, the Democratic Senator explained.......................

Gotta say it. Trump fixation makes it look like YOU ALL are on his payroll. Negatives-only coverage of Hillary confirms it.

(11,989 posts)...because Trump gave a speech encouraging them to do it?
Of course Trump would be a disaster as president, but I think harping on this one is silly.

(383 posts)A major party candidate for the presidency of the United States has called on a belligerent foreign power to hack into the emails of his opponent. This should cause some serious eyebrow raising across the political spectrum regardless of any action or inaction is taken by that power. Give some thought to your attitude toward this if Trump was sitting in the Oval Office making such a comment. A comment that would travel around the world in seconds...and taken very seriously by other heads of state. Harping? Hardly.

(11,989 posts)And if he made a comment like that as president, same as he has done as a candidate, I don't think the Russians would alter their behavior one way or the other. It was just more, typical, dumb, off-the-cuff Trump rhetoric. So no, I don't think it would be taken very seriously by other heads of state.
I was much more concerned about his 2nd amendment comment. Russia is not suddenly going to try to hack Hillary emails because Donald gave them the idea or the go-ahead, they will or won't do whatever they do regardless. But some nut in this country with a gun who only needs a little more encouragement, yeah, *that* was a dangerous remark.

(51 posts)Trump is encouraging Russia to hack into servers at the same time that hackers FROM the Russian sphere of influence are ACTUALLY hacking into servers. You are attempting to use what can be called "common sense" in the face of information that contradicts your parameters of common sense.
Besides, we also know that former campaign chief Manafort is up to his eyeballs in associations with Russian, Mafia and Putin-controlled, Oligarchs. We know that he may be prosecuted for not registering as a foreign agent. And he was heading the Trump campaign while an unregistered Russian foreign agent. AND we know that Trump already owes Russian Oligarchs hundreds of millions in loans and investments.
And you want to suggest that Trump's comment inviting Russia to hack into servers is an isolated media event??
Russia will do anything it can to tilt the US election in their direction-- in their national interests. And Trump just encouraged them to do so. You don't see a problem with that?

(11,989 posts)Yes, I think there are legitimate concerns about Trump and Russia. Between his own links and Manafort's, sure, we can worry about backroom deals, financial or otherwise. That I take seriously. But this other thing is nonsense. It's not what Trump says in campaign bluster that worries me. It's what he would whisper into the right ear in private. If Putin had any reaction to Trump's comment at all, it was probably laughter. But if Trump managed some secret deal to facilitate spying on his enemies, yes, that would be a concern. It wouldn''t be announced in a speech, though.

(7,004 posts)to imagine what other stupid things he could say to cause trouble. We've had an excellent heads up on this. And yes, I do believe Russia is involved in hacking the US.
By letting the moron go unchallenged, the media is complicit in his treacherous musings.

(1,245 posts)"In 1974, Richard Nixon, the 37th President of the United States, was in the process of being impeached by the United States House of Representatives on several charges related to the Watergate scandal. The House Judiciary Committee approved articles of impeachment against him and reported those articles to the House of Representatives. The impeachment resolutions were never considered by the full House, as the process was cut short by the resignation of Nixon from the presidency on August 9, 1974. It is widely believed that had Nixon not resigned, his impeachment by the House, and removal from office by a trial of the United States Senate, would have been an inevitability."
