TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- The older of two Oklahoma brothers accused of fatally stabbing their parents and three younger siblings last year was sentenced to life without parole Wednesday after pleading guilty in the killings.
The Tulsa World reports (http://bit.ly/2c5sxA8 ) that 19-year-old Robert Bever was sentenced in Tulsa County District Court after pleading guilty at his scheduled arraignment in the July 2015 killings.

Bentz said at the hearing the teen told of a plan to kill their family, cut up the bodies, and store them in bins in the attic before heading west in the family SUV armed with guns, ammunition and makeshift bombs to randomly attack other locations and kill 10 people at each place.

Two Broken Arrow detectives took the stand in Tuesday's court appearance. The first detective, Chane Cothran, recalled the interview with the 13-year-old who survived.
She said her brothers were interested in mass killings for at least a year before the killings. She also recalled seeing knives and body armor on the bed of the boys the night of the killings.
. . .
They had 2,000 rounds of ammo for the pistols and 250 rounds for the shot gun.
The brothers said they planned to steal a car from their parents and drive to populated places and kill 5 people everywhere they stopped. They wanted to kill as many people as possible.

"Ultimately the single most important factor in my decision to resolve this case centered upon the needs of the two surviving children who lost everything in their lives," Kunzweiler said in a statement. "Those children deserve to be able to move on with their lives as best they can without the continued torment of a trial and decades of appeals that a death penalty case would most likely bring."

While going over the terms of his guilty plea, Ramsey told Holmes that the mental health medication Robert Bever is taking does not affect his ability to understand the court proceedings.

The brothers' defense attorneys asked multiple questions at the preliminary hearing about the siblings isolation from people outside their immediate family, their lack of friends, their home schooling, and physical and verbal abuse in the home. A detective testified that the surviving sister had said her father would throw the children and verbally abuse them.

Maybe we'll even get some standards set for home schooling so that kids aren't brought up by paranoid freaks who are terrified other people will contaminate the perfect ignorance of their kids.

(3,212 posts)I'd bet anything that homeschooled kids kill far less than kids in public school per capita.
These boys are obviously sociopaths, and I'm pretty sure that if they are sociopaths due to lack of nurture (bonding), that happened before the age of kindergarten.

(3,212 posts)The "no tolerance" crap is part of the reason; it's sure not part of the solution!

(38 posts)Why I like western history. Man did that back in the old days, no long drawn crap for lawyers to make $, he would be hanging from a tree by sunset. Now he gets to watch TV, play on the internet and have health care, food, all at the expense of the tax payers.

We've already in this thread thrown out the speculation that home-schooling had something to do with it. Maybe so, maybe not, but perhaps more to the point, was there abuse of some kind going on?
I know that Charlie Manson and Ted Bundy were both abused sexually as children. It would be useful to find out if that was going on here, IMO.
