Wisconsin will pay Planned Parenthood lawyers $1.6 million after admitting privileges lawsuit

The state of Wisconsin will pay three organizations, including Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, $1.6 million in legal fees for a lawsuit over the state's admitting privileges law.
Last month, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and Affiliated Medical Services wrote in court filings that their legal bills totaled $1.8 million. The state Department of Justice said at the time it would likely challenge the request to ensure it didn't overpay.
Gov. (Scott) Walkers unconstitutional abortion restrictions have proven to be an expensive bill for the taxpayers of Wisconsin," said Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin president and CEO Teri Huyck. "Funds that would be better spent ensuring that women in Wisconsin had access to basic birth control and preventive health care are instead being wasted on unconstitutional restrictions aimed at blocking access to abortion in our state."
The U.S. Supreme Court rejected appeals in June from Wisconsin and Mississippi over laws that would require that abortion providers have admitting privileges to a hospital near their clinic. The court ruled earlier that week that a similar 2013 Texas law places an "undue burden" on a woman's right to end a pregnancy.

Taxpayers in those other states who had similar laws will have to pay out also. Walker and the Repugs spent 2years and lots of taxpayer $$ to feed his ego. damn!!

(26,293 posts)For example say the state of Arkansas were to pass a similar law it should have to pay 3x the amount that the prior state had to pay if the court throws the new law out as well for that state, that way maybe the assholes passing these stupid laws will rethink their strategy.

(5,902 posts)If anybody thinks Walker hasn't been making full use of black-box voting in Wisconsin since he's taken office (particularly during the 2012 Recall), his buddy Crisco has a bridge to sell you.

(16,189 posts)Is the one in the middle the one out of La Crosse into Minnesota across the Mississippi? Minnesota: cool, progressive state. What Wisconsin used to be like. Mississippi: backwards thinking bastion of conservatism. What Wisconsin has become more like.

(18,470 posts)The bridges are Iowa/Wisconsin Mississippi River vehicle crossings.
The one in the middle is the Marquette-Joliet Bridge. It goes from Marquette, Iowa over to Prairie Du Chein, Wisconsin.
The first one is the Dubuque-Wisconsin bridge that goes from Dubuque, Iowa to Grant County, Wisconsin.
The bottom one is the Black Hawk Bridge that goes from Lansing, Iowa to Crawford County, Wisconsin.

(129,096 posts)Every friggin' thing that they do to oppress the rights of others - whether it be to restrict choice in this instance or even to restrict choice in the use of public facilities - ultimately "costs the taxpayers" - both to implement the restrictions AND to pay restitution when these draconian measures are finally thrown out as unconstitutional.
It just boggles the mind their obsessive compulsive need to "control" the environment to fit their twisted worldviews, no matter what the cost.
