Donald Trump surprises Dr. Oz with results of recent physical

Source: CNN

Donald Trump, a master showman, surprised the "Dr. Oz Show" studio audience on Wednesday by revealing the results of a recent physical exam.

The "Oz" episode, taped on Wednesday morning, will air on Thursday. Trump handed Dr. Oz a one-page summary of the exam conducted by Dr. Harold N. Bornstein last week. Bornstein is the same hyperbolic doctor who previously said Trump would, if elected, be the healthiest president in history.

The campaign plans to share the information from Dr. Bornstein on Thursday. But it began to leak out after the "Oz" taping.

Trump told Dr. Mehmet Oz that he wants to lose about 15 pounds, according to audience members, who also said Oz sounded generally impressed by Trump's health.

Sep 2016

An Internal Medicine specialist, Gerontology Specialist, yea. I could even understand him going to a Family Medicine Practitioner. But a Gastroenterologist?? No.

So I'm thinking this means that Trump doesn't actually have a primary care physician. Trump might just be going to Bornstein because he will sign off on what ever is required.

I have never heard of anyone going to a Gastroenterologist for a physical exam. You are referred to a Gastroenterologist "if" you need to see one "after" a Family medicine practitioner does a "real" exam. This guy Trump goes to is getting paid off to write only good things about Trump. This whole thing with Trump, from day one, has been a joke, and anyone that can't see that isn't play with a full deck of cards.

For years. He has ulcerative colitis and his GI doc managed all of his complicated care and the drugs he was on due to his past medical history. So, it does happen, at least to those who see a GI doc regularly.

It was not a major point during Rachel's reporting a few weeks ago but when she mentioned his title I caught it and made a mental note of it. Searching for him you can find his practice commonly listed as:

Dr. Harold Bornstein, MD - New York, NY - Gastroenterology & Internal Medicine

It is included in his specialties here:

but I saw very few, if any, who actually still actively practiced internal medicine, regardless of how they listed themselves.

IM is the 'doorway' specialty to a whole lot of more focused specialties, such as cardiology, rhumatology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, pulmonary disease, oncology, nephrology, critical care medicine, etc.

They don't usually go through all of that specialized, intense training to fall back on practicing primary care medicine.

Yea, he might be doing this as a favor for Trump, but it still smells to high heaven to someone like me.

He was asked how he got connected with Trump...something about his family growing up near the Trump family in Queens, and their mothers knowing each other. Upshot was that Trump has been seeing him for 30 years, according to the doc.

My assumption is that even back then, Trump was a minor celebrity...and the doctor took him on as a general patient...as a favor to his mother, and due to his celebrity.

Because I'm going to assume that someone worth TEN BILLION DOLLARS probably doesn't bother with purchasing health insurance.

I never worked in the billing department but when we credentialed doctors, they were approved for specific procedures that are commonly carried out in reference to the specialty practiced. If they wanted to bill for something that wasn't traditionally associated with their specialty, they had to apply for that code.

I don't think Trump is really worth $10 Billion...but he probably has enough to pay out of pocket.

He's not just overweight, he's obese. To get to a healthy BMI, he would need to lose over 70 pounds.

The fact that he still went to Dr. Feelgood after the criticism of his previous health letter is ludicrous. And why just a summary. Why not turn over the results of the tests?

Wed Sep 14, 2016, 05:04 PM
Sep 2016

Considering Donald Trump got his physical from Dr. Harold N. Bornstein, should Dr. Oz have cancelled the show, or at lest refused to have Trump on the show. Dr. Bornstein does not seem like a reliable doctor to conduct a physical. In addition, it appears there was no real useful information, minus Trump's weight, which was just below obese, on Trump's health.

It seems it would have been better for Dr. Oz to demand that Trump either go to an independent doctor, or have a doctor who works for the show conduct the physical. I feel Dr. Oz just participated in a dog and pony show.
