Shooting reported at Townville Elementary (updated)

Multiple law enforcement units are responding to Townville Elementary School for a possible shooting.

According to scanner reports, EMS and LifeFlight are responding to the scene.

Sheila Cole, spokeswoman for Anderson County Sheriff's Office, believed they have someone in custody, but is awaiting on confirmation. Police units from multiple law enforcement agencies were on their way to the scene, including the Highway Patrol, Anderson city, Anderson County and Oconee County.

Townville Elementary School is in Anderson County District 4. It has 286 students in pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. The school is at 105 Townville School Road, off Highway 24 near Lake Hartwell and the Georgia state line.

"The Anderson County Coroner's Office is investigating a death on Osborne Road in Townville that officials say is connected with the shooting at the school. The location is a little more than 3 miles from school.


The Coroner's Office said a man was found dead at the home, and that he died before the shooting at the school.


Investigators confirmed that the death has a "direct connection" to the shooting at the school.
