Iran 'ready to fire missiles at US bases'
Source: The Guardian
Iran is prepared to launch missiles at US bases throughout the Gulf within minutes of an attack on the Islamic Republic, according to a commander of the country's Revolutionary Guards.
In an apparent response to reports that the US has increased its military presence in the Gulf, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards' air force said on Wednesdaythat missiles had been aimed at 35 US military bases in the Gulf as well as targets in Israel, ready to be launched in case of an attack.
The semi-official Fars news agency reported Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh as saying: "We have thought of measures to set up bases and deploy missiles to destroy all these bases in the early minutes after an attack."
Hajizadeh's remarks were made on the sidelines of a three-day war game called Great Prophet Seven, which Iranian officials claimed was a show of defiance against western pressure, including the US and EU embargo against imports of Iranian oil that came into effect on 1 July.

Why would the US attack Iran btw? Has Iran attacked the US lately?
Because that would be the only legitimate reason to even consider such a thing.
We're still paying for the last illegitimate attack on a ME nation, and the results of that little adventure is something we and they will be paying for for generations to come.

(288 posts)They're always the first to point out how tough they are and how they would totally annihilate Israel if they had the chance. Just more flexing of muscles by Iran. North Korea does this all the time. The difference is that while North Korea's military is pretty laughably inept, the Iranian Guard would provide a greater challenge.

(14,180 posts)North Korea's military. In fact, my Dad said the North Korean soldiers were tougher than U.S. Marines. Coming from him, that's quite a compliment.

They could blow up their oil refinery's and wipe out the worlds economy. So don't think their saber rattling is just theater.

The refinery you are probably thinking of is at Bandar Abbas, which sits at the Straits of Hormuz bottleneck. They won't destroy that refinery; they are rebuilding it. They will probably close the Straits by mining the bottleneck.

(19,245 posts)Plenty of facilities there that handle millions more barrels of oil than Iran does, and destroying infrastructure is a lot harder to counter than just throwing out mines in the Strait.

(1 post)The Iranians have made the threat to close the Straight of Hormuz at least 2 dozen times.
The Air Force is a joke, including the various, different versions of the F-5 they copy and produce as well as most of their other craft. The most modern planes they fly are the ones Saddam gave them in '91. They sucked in Iraqi hands and they"ll suck in Iranian hands,
Now, their navy on the other hand, is good for one thing, target practice as seen during Operation Preying Mantis in '88.
There only real threat is their land based anti-ship missiles which do not have the range to reach any of our ships sitting in the Arabian Sea.
In regards to an earlier post on here, my honest opinion is that of the two, North Korea is the much more capable enemy, even with their older eqt. They could wipe out Seoul in a couple of hours by CONVENTIONAL means, i.e, 7-10,000 artillery pieces pointed directly at the city itself.

(593 posts)AFP - A US federal judge has ordered Iran to pay more than $813 million in damages and interest to the families of 241 US soldiers killed in the 1983 bombing of a Marine barracks in Lebanon.
"After this opinion, this court will have issued over $8.8 billion in judgments against Iran as a result of the 1983 Beirut bombing," Judge Royce Lamberth wrote in a ruling this week, a copy of which was seen Friday by AFP.
"Iran is racking up quite a bill from its sponsorship of terrorism," the Washington judge added, noting that "a number of other Beirut bombing cases remain pending, and their completion will surely increase this amount."

When you hear people say this :
"Mitt Romney's great for the economy because of his business experience."
(good propaganda has simple words and is six to eight words long, to be easily repeated)
"Fighting them over here..."etc.
(and don't forget they can't hear you, or your "reason" through any of that propaganda!)
Problem is, in America, only one third of us are capable of showing up on election day. That means, Mit Romney
can win the next election.
Learning from the Bush days is an excellent strategy.
