(50,928 posts)Considering that maybe Trump supporters won't like his non-support they might refuse to vote for him.

(19,564 posts)They all knew he what he was. They took their chances, rather than take a stand against him. They all deserve the backlash Trump's candidacy is about to reign down on them.
Trump and his Deplorables will, of course, be outraged by this move. Ryan's about to get a taste of the lunatics rage now.

(70,506 posts)Barring an unforeseeable, if not miraculous, political recovery for Mr. Trump, the Republican
exodus from his camp is expected to pick up pace in the coming days as lawmakers digest
his debate performance and receive new polling on how voters are processing his apparent
demise. Even then, Republicans may be hard-pressed to fully desert a nominee who maintains
a powerful following in the party base.
That abiding loyalty is what alarms party strategists: Even if just 5 percent of the most reliable
Republican voters do not vote or cast a ballot only for Mr. Trump, it would ensure that Republicans
lose nearly every close congressional race.

I am so angry today.. that "debate" was a disgrace.

(94,572 posts)Speaker Paul Ryan told House Republicans on a conference call Monday morning he is done defending Donald Trump and will focus on keeping an increasingly imperiled House majority, according to sources on the call.
Ryan added that if Hillary Clinton wins the White House, a Republican Congress is needed to be a check on her.
The speaker, however, did not formally revoke his endorsement of Trump.

(28 posts)I guess those new Trump tapes contain some awful things. Rumors of him using the "N" word openly and doing far worse. Hopefully they get released sometimes today. When these are released, Trump is done!

(7,632 posts)We haven't got the maximum mileage yet from the Access Hollywood criminal confession disaster.
Then again, maybe more of his toxic mouth immediately following his debate "win" would derail that skewed perception I'm hearing some of the talking heads push.
In the end, it depends on how much more material is available, I suppose.
My guess is: A LOT .

(17,387 posts)Paul Ryan cannot back away from Trump, because Trump has pretty much captured the Republican base by saying out loud what the GOP has repeatedly hinted at. By driving the various non-scandals, by pandering to the birthers, by attacking immigrants, the GOP helped set the stage for Donald Trump, and now they simply cannot walk away from him without disavowing the hardcore, racist base that they helped create.

(101,318 posts)In a conference call with members Monday morning, Ryan told members "you all need to do what's best for you and your district," according to someone who listened to the meeting.
"He will spend his entire energy making sure that Hillary Clinton does not get a blank check with a Democrat-controlled Congress," said the person on the call an implied acknowledgment that Donald Trump no longer appears able to capture the White House.

(2,674 posts)If Trump were a Democrat, I would have written him off when he made the remarks about John McCain earlier on. McCain endured 5 years of torture and prison. Every person, whatever party, should have rebuked Trump when he made the remark about McCain not being a true Patriot. So few Republicans came to his defense.
My mother taught me that you should always do what you feel is the right thing, even if you have to face a bad consequence.
The Republicans have dug themselves into a big hole and I love it. They are going to lose the elections big time, not just the national , but in the state and locals, too.
We are even seeing more Blue in Texas right now.
