Midnight Strike Deadline Looms for Chicago Teachers Union

Source: NBC Chicago

Unless a contract is reached, teachers will begin a strike at 6 a.m. Tuesday

By Michelle Relerford

With talks still underway and a deadline fast approaching, educators, parents and students in Chicago are bracing for yet another teachers strike planned to begin this week.

Teachers have been told that unless it’s announced otherwise, the strike will begin Tuesday, Oct. 11 with union members prepared to walk picket lines starting at 6 a.m. and continuing to do so each day while the strike lasts.

Chicago Teachers Union members began picking up their strike materials Monday afternoon as the midnight strike deadline loomed heavily over the city.

Monday morning, Chicago parents who support the teachers planned to march through Emanuel’s Ravenswood neighborhood with signs and banners in a final push to stop the strike and keep students in school.
