John Boehner: Voters 'Aren't Going To Fall In Love With Mitt Romney'

Roll Call reports that at the June 30 event, a female attendee asked Boehner, "Can you make me love Mitt Romney?" He responded, "No."
The Ohio Republican explained: "Listen, we're just politicians. I wasn't elected to play God. The American people probably aren't going to fall in love with Mitt Romney. I'll tell you this: 95 percent of the people that show up to vote in November are going to show up in that voting booth, and they are going to vote for or against Barack Obama."
Boehner endorsed Romney in his campaign for the White House in April after repeatedly dodging the issue.

(29 posts)This will be a referendum on Obama one way or the other. I think if we make our case in a thoughtful way we can trust the American people to make the right choice.

(2,529 posts)Not about ACA. He's distancing himself from it. This is the time to make public announcements about the people it's helped, the money it's saving, the children that can go on their parents' insurance policies until they're 26, the people with pre-existing conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and history of heart disease that will benefit from it. Instead, he's not owning it. Sure, it's not as good as single-payer, but it beats no-payer and he can inoculate himself early on from the anti-"Obamacare" ads that Romney will be beating him up with as the election heats up. He needs to be a bit more pro-active about it. This will be a hammer that Republicans will be hitting him with this entire season. He should neutralize it as much as he can before hand.

Shared on FB, which mostly consists of liberal friends but hopefully, they'll spread the word to conservative family and friends who can use the benefits. I know the only person I've converted is an in-law on my husband's side that we convinced to enroll and will now be getting healthcare for his COPD and other respiratory problems. I hope he's been telling his teabagger friends at his stupid lodge about it.

(9,373 posts)I'm not really happy about him distancing himself from it, but the more talk about the positive side the better. The stupid wingnuts are acting like Chicken Little and, as usual, are disconnected with reality.

(2,307 posts)So Boner thinks selling Romney is a waste of time. He feels they don't need a plan they are the Anti-Obama and that is all they need. I hope, America is smarter than that.

(32,086 posts)I wish America was smarter than that. They gave us 8 years of Dumbya, and the crazy shitbags that took over the House in 2010. In that light, Boner may be correct.

I thought they didn't care about the polls ... at least, that's what they kept telling us ...

(3,173 posts)The Republicans have a crop of distinctly un-lovable politicians, starting with Boehner himself. Mitch McConnell sets no hearts afire, that's for sure. Paul Ryan wants to cut off your grandmother's Social Security check, so he's no heart throb either.
