Breaking: Democrats Sue Trump, State Republican Parties, and Roger Stone for Voter Intimidation

Source: Election Law Blog

The latest set of filings from Democrats (led by Marc Elias) against, the Trump campaign, state Republican parties, and Roger Stone’s “Stop the Steal” group:

Nevada Complaint

Arizona Complaint

Pennsylvania Complaint

Ohio Complaint

I haven’t yet gone through each complaint in detail yet, but all seem to raise two claims, one under the Voting Rights Act and one under the Ku Klux Klan Act, aimed at preventing voter intimidation. The complaints allege that the state parties are cooperating with the Trump campaign and Stone to stir up unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud and to intimidate minority voters. This complaint comes on top of the earlier-filed complaint alleging that Trump and the RNC are violating the long-standing and soon expiring (unless extended) consent decree against the RNC.

The new complaints seek temporary restraining orders which will bar activities such as “exit polling” from the Stone people which could be used to intimidate voters.

It is not clear that a court would issue a vague order to stop “voter intimidation,” as requested in the relief in these suits (as that term would be vague and difficult to enforce). But the suits will first bring publicity to the activities, and second get these parties on record stating that they do not plan on engaging in voter intimidation, which itself could be useful in the event of problems on election day.

12. Their target: suppress African Americans and other groups of voters

Plaintiff: Dendents Donald J. Trump, the National Republican Party and advisor Roger J. Stone Jr. for ...conspiring to threaten, intimidate, and thereby prevent minority voters in urban neighborhoods from voting in the 2016 election. The presently stated goal of the Trump Campaign, as explained by an unnamed official to Bloomberg News on October 27, is to depress voter turnout—in the official’s words: “We have three major voter suppression operations under way” that target African Americans and other groups of voters.

Trump’s supporters have responded with pledges to descend upon polling places in “certain areas” where many minority voters live in order to interfere with their efforts to exercise the franchise.

Fuck you Donald! You and your lynch mob are going down in flames this election. I'm going to see to it by turning out democrats to the polls.

1871 Klu Klux Klan Act passed by Congress was for suppressing terrorizing voters by the KKK.

Not about voting, it's about a development proposal and the environment but still...you cannot let repukes get away with their crap.

BTW, I am self-representing and recommend it to anyone with a good case who can read, do research and write reasonably well, say early college-years level. I and two cohorts are holding our own self-representing against two seasoned land use attorneys. We don't have a decision yet and we've spent lots of time on research, filings, briefs, etc. but we haven't spent a dime.
