Trump agrees to 25 million settlement in Trump University fraud cases

President-elect Donald Trump, who has repeatedly bragged he never settles lawsuits despite a long history of doing so, has agreed to a 25 million settlement to end the fraud cases pending against his defunct real estate seminar program, Trump University, according to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
Schneiderman said in a Friday statement that the settlement includes a 1 million penalty paid to New York state for violating the states education laws by calling the program a university despite offering no degrees or traditional education.
Schneiderman said his office had sued Trump for swindling thousands of innocent Americans out of millions of dollars and that the settlement had come despite resistance from Trump. Today, that all changes. Todays 25 million settlement agreement is a stunning reversal by Donald Trump and a major victory for the over 6,000 victims of his fraudulent university, he said. Neither representatives for Trump nor lawyers for plaintiffs in the two California suits immediately responded to a request for comment.
The settlement eliminates the possibility that Trump will be called to testify in court in the midst of his presidential transition. The deal ends three suits against him, including a California class action case that was scheduled to go to trial later this month, as well as a second suit in that state and the New York state action.

(27,832 posts)However, that was for my sake. For the sake of the people who were defrauded, I hope they get some financial relief.
I also hope that the media broadcasts this, along with tape of his saying that he "never settles".

(60,010 posts)His refusal to show his records may be in part (given his ego) a way to avoid anyone knowing his actual worth.
What IS known is that he uses his foundation, and now his campaign, for money.
But in fact, his bankruptcies show that the various businesses were used as a money pit for him, via loans and shares, until they folded because they were not self supporting. Investors lost, he walked away with huge payouts.
Bank Trumpcy.....fits him.

Amazing how someone that committed fraud can now walk, and those individuals are still in a lurch.
This just p****** me off to no end.
The public was told for months that this was going to trial, months. And people wonder why they / we are upset, there are those that commit a crime and get away with it, and then there are those that commit a crime and go to trial

(1,240 posts)$25,000,000 divided by 6,000 students = $4166.67. And how much did one semester cost at Trump U? This does not sound like much compensation to me.
