Police, Protesters Face Off At Dakota Access Pipeline
Source: ABC/AP
Protesters clashed with law enforcement late Sunday near the site of the Dakota Access pipeline, with at least one person arrested as protesters sought to push past a bridge on a state highway that had been blockaded since late October.
The Morton County Sheriff's Office estimated 400 protesters were trying to cross the bridge on state Highway 1806 in what they called "an ongoing riot." Law enforcement had formed a line to prevent their movement, and appeared to be using water cannons as temperatures dipped toward the low 20s.
The clash was at the Backwater Bridge, near where protesters had set up camp on private property owned by the pipeline developer, Energy Transfer Partners, before they were forcibly removed by law enforcement Oct. 27. It's also about a mile from an uncompleted section under Lake Oahe, a Missouri River reservoir, where work has been on hold by order of federal agencies.
A video shot by a protester showed what appeared to be water cannons and tear gas being fired at protesters. The sheriff's office said the incident began around 6 p.m. when protesters removed a burned-out truck that had been on the bridge since the Oct. 27 confrontation.

Facebook live feed was cut,
Rema Loeb told The Associated Press he was forced to retreat from the bridge because he feared being doused with water on the freezing night. Others, he said, needed medical treatment after being hit with tear gas.

(160,542 posts)How did the unholy, pure evil genocide across this nation happen? Greedy monsters wanted to steal everything in sight without civilized discussion, respectful compensation, and the necessary decent behavior required of human beings, and kill everyone standing in the way, on their own land. What the #### has changed, anyway?
Thank you, mitty14u2.

(1,368 posts)We have video proof that the cops started the fire, and while the PEOPLE were putting out the fire they sprayed water on the PROTECTORS!! They did it this way so you people would see only the lying corrupt views of the Corrupt sheriff views. If I knew how to upload videos of last nights PEACEFUL gathering I could show you exactly what happened!!!
So don't go saying "not so peaceful" until you see the truth and even be there to witness it yourself!!! Hell, the protests of trump were more violent than any of the protector's actions. Al Jazeera and New Zealand press was also there, and they are showing the truth!!!
We are in constant prayer here, no weapons at all!!! not even a pocket knife!!! Reminding you again...The cops started the fires, then shot water cannons into the crowd as they were trying to put out the fire! Don't you see that crooked sheriff WANTS people to believe his lies!!!
I was on the front line, I had never been to war, the shear hatred from them would make your skin crawl as it did mine...if you drink water, you should embrace the movement and stop spreading propaganda!!! As a matter of fact, I challenge YOU to go there and see it first hand!!!

(1,368 posts)in the ditches by the bridge for the protectors to keep warm...the water cannons were not even aiming for them. Just a way for that idiotic sheriff to blame the peaceful.

kind of ironic that you would title a post those are lies and then start out by lying....

(1,368 posts)out to me. It wasn't really a lie, the way the article, that you shared, presented itself as if we lit fires as a form of aggression, which is a lie.
My falsehood was that I forgot that there were fires that were lit to keep warm. But....you still shared propaganda. They do NOT have our best interests at heart. YOU saying that we are NOT peaceful was just as misleading as what I said. I, however came with passion at seeing my brothers and sisters, and my Elders being treated horribly by people who have taken an oath to protect and to serve it's people.
Them using water cannons on us in that cold of temperatures is an act of torture.
I still challenge you to go there and see for yourself at how we are staying in peace. Maybe you will learn something?
What do you have against us anyway?

We have only real history, not propaganda, to inform us, even though fascists are wild to spread the lies, not the truth. It's their belief EVERYTHING in the world is created to serve the interests of the self-designated "elites."
Best wishes to every human being there to protest the continuation of the war against the Native people.

(1,368 posts)Let me tell you...it is very hard when you are there to stay in a place of love and peace when you see an American soldier in all there gear holding machine guns and spraying you with pepper spray. I understand now how people in other countries feel when we go to war with them.

CANNON BALL, N.D. (AP) Authorities on Monday defended their decision to douse protesters with water during a skirmish in subfreezing weather near the Dakota Access oil pipeline, and organizers said at least 17 protesters were taken to the hospital including some who were treated for hypothermia.
Protesters trying to push past a long-blocked bridge on a state highway late Sunday and early Monday were turned back by authorities using tear gas, rubber bullets and water hoses.
At least 17 protesters were injured severely enough to be taken to hospitals, said Dallas Goldtooth, an organizer with the Indigenous Environmental Network. "Hypothermia, a number of head injuries from being shot with rubber bullets, one individual had a heart attack," he said.
Daniel Kanahele, 64, a native Hawaiian who joined the protest last week, said he was hit with tear gas, water spray and a rubber bullet in a leg, and "it took me off my feet." He was treated at the scene but said many other protesters suffered more serious injuries.
