Protecting Donald Trump costs New York City more than 1 million a day

Source: CNN

Protecting President-elect Donald Trump and his family is costing New York City more than $1 million a day, according to three city officials.

And those costs won't necessarily drop significantly once he moves to the White House.

That's because Melania Trump and their 10-year old son Barron expect to stay at their home at Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan, at least until the end of the school year. And Donald Trump has indicated he plans to return home regularly, especially while they're still here.

Adding to the expense is the cost of police assigned to Trump's adult children and his grandchildren, who are also receiving Secret Service protection, John Miller, NYPD's deputy commissioner of intelligence & counterterrorism, told WCBS Monday. All of them live in the city, and all are entitled to receive Secret Service protection.

So before you get the three limousines that contain the President (1 with the President and 2 decoy vehicles), you get approximately 20 motorcycle cops hauling ass down the road, and then you get another 10+ cop cars escorting the official motorcade. That doesn't include the Ambulance, and a few military vehicles.

And that doesn't include the hundreds of cops that closed all the crossing streets for 1/2 hour before the President's motorcade came through. They actually call in a bunch of cops from neighboring districts for these type events. I saw Cobb County cops, Dekalb County, Fulton County, Gwinett County, City of Atlanta, Sandy Springs, East Side, etc. It was a huge event for them, and all he was doing was driving down the street.

It's pretty amazing to see it in action actually. The President moving down the street is a big deal. Local cops are called in to provide escort duty, crowd control, and all kinds of other services that the Secret Service doesn't have the manpower for.

And the local police do a lot of the work when the President travels around town. They work when leaders from other countries come to town too.

If I'm a cop making $100,000 a year, figure 261 work days in a typical year, so a cop costs $383 a day. That's 2611 cops patrolling the trump tower. Huh???
