Obama expands lead on Romney: poll

Reuters) - President Barack Obama expanded his lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney to 6 percentage points in the White House race this month as voters became slightly more optimistic about the economy, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Tuesday.

Four months before the November 6 election, Obama leads Romney among registered voters 49 percent to 43 percent. Last month, Obama held a slim 1-point lead over the former Massachusetts governor.

Obama's improved standing was fueled by a rise in optimism about the future, with the number of Americans who think the country is on the wrong track dipping 5 percentage points to 58 percent.

Obama's approval ratings ticked up 1 point to 48 percent and the number of Americans who disapprove of Obama's job performance dropped 3 percentage points to 47 percent.

6. I don't understand why some folks would vote again Obama, if they have money in the stock market.

The investments have come roaring back since he's been in office. Makes no sense.

But the Real Clear Politics average shows the President with 46.4% to the Governor's 45.7%. This is far from over, and folks need to pay attention to getting everyone out to vote.

9. There's good news and bad news here

The bad news is that popular vote polls are worth about as much as internet polls--frankly, they're worth the paper that they're printed on. So saying that Obama is marginally ahead of Romney means nothing.

The good news is that the important polls--the state by state polls--are showing a rout of Romney. If the Democrats can extend that down through the ticket, that can be good news for everyone. If the Party would embark again on Dean's 50-state strategy and contest every single state and Congressional seat, we stand to actually accomplish something in the second term. Unfortunately, the DCCC only seems interested in helping Blue Dogs (per Howie Klein of the Blue America PAC which supports liberals only). And then we've got too many Democrats who have star syndrome, where they see the Presidency as the prize, without realizing that all the state and local races are as important, if not more important in some cases. Just look at the damage wrought in the states since 2010. There's a lot of healing that needs to be done at all levels.
