Convicted mass killer Manson hospitalized outside prison: reports
Source: Reuters
Convicted mass murderer Charles Manson was taken from a California prison, where he is serving a life term, to a hospital for an undisclosed medical issue on Tuesday, news media reported.
Manson, 82, was seriously ill, a source told the Los Angeles Times, but could not provide further information. TMZ reported that Manson was transported to a hospital in Bakersfield, California, about an hour from California State Prison in Corcoran, where he was being held.
A California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman declined to comment to Reuters, citing inmate medical privacy issues.
In the 1960s, Manson, a charismatic ex-convict, assembled a group of runaways and outcasts known as the "Manson Family." In the summer of 1969, he directed his mostly young, female followers to murder seven people in what prosecutors said was part of a plan to incite a race war.

(111,277 posts)as soon as he's medically stable and/or the tests have been run. If he's too sick for the prison infirmary, he's too sick to be much of a threat to anyone and even if he's able to play head games with some naive nurse, she won't have the key to his shackles.
I've taken care of more than my share of prisoners shackled to beds with guards who had their guns ready to draw every time I went into the room. Manson won't be any different, and remember also he's an old man now, he's 82.

(2,809 posts)The prisoners were only ever assigned a number, never referred to by name. But it was often unmistakable who we were caring for. It does present a certain irony giving gentle care and comfort to those who would likely murder their caregiver if they weren't massively shackled at all times. And, it has part of the reason the facility is mostly staffed by contractors/travelers.
I would never accept another assignment there, for several reasons.

Currently, however, Democrats seem more focused on bashing the folks who supported Sanders as well as the ideas and direction he advocated. They should utilize their juice to go after trump.

(1,770 posts)Manson is not a mass murderer. He was never convicted of personally murdering anyone. Although, he might have one or two people. He was found guilty of conspiracy. He's a psychopath for sure, but he's too much of a coward to get his hands dirty.
Not a defense, just pointing out the facts.

(73,559 posts)Little Charlie was convicted in a court of law for murder. And rightly so. This is distinct from being "merely an accessory in the eyes of the law." He was not charged -- hence, not convicted -- with being an accessory to murder. That said, it is obvious that: (a) one of us is familiar with the case, and (b) one of us understands the law ....and it isn't you.

And then the book Helter Skelter came out and brought it all up again.
And the really sick thing is that Manson still has followers today. Sick people out there.

Cult leader Charles Manson was back in a central California prison on Saturday after a reported hospital stay for an unspecified medical problem.
Manson, 82, was at California state prison, Corcoran, said Jeffrey Callison, a spokesman for the state department of corrections and rehabilitation.
We never stated he was anywhere else, Callison said in an email. Medical privacy laws do not allow (the department) to discuss inmates medical issues, if any.
The department has declined to comment on reports from TMZ and the Los Angeles Times that earlier in the week Manson was taken to a hospital in Bakersfield, 60 miles south of the prison.
While the prison has medical facilities, California prisoners generally are sent to outside hospitals if they need surgical services, emergency care, or diagnostic services of an acute nature, Joyce Hayhoe, a spokeswoman for the federal receiver who controls prison medical care, said on Tuesday.
