Trump to Kill Obamacare With Executive Orders on Day One

Source: The Daily Beast

President-elect Donald Trump will begin to dismantle the Affordable Care Act almost immediately when he takes office later this month through a series of executive orders, Mike Pence reportedly told House Republicans in a meeting on Captiol Hill on Wednesday morning. Rep. Chris Collins, a steadfast Trump ally in the lower chamber, reportedly said Congressional Republicans will have a replacement bill ready in six months. Meanwhile, President Obama was meeting separately with Democrats to discuss a strategy going forward for shielding the president’s signature legislative achievement. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) was tweeting from inside the meeting and said Obama criticized the GOP for its handling of the repeal process. “You don’t tear down a house before having plans and building a new one,” Obama purportedly said, adding that he could have done a better job “communicating the importance” of the Affordable Care Act.

Trump could quickly doom ACA cost-sharing subsidies for millions of Americans

By Amy Goldstein

amy.goldstein@washpost.com
@goldsteinamy

December 24

Even without Congress repealing the Affordable Care Act, the Trump administration could undermine the law by unilaterally ending billions of dollars the government pays insurers to subsidize the health coverage of nearly 6 million Americans.
....

The subsidies could be eliminated as soon as President-elect Donald Trump takes office, a consequence of an unusual lawsuit that House Republicans brought against the Obama administration two years ago.

The GOP’s case, part of its sustained attack on the 2010 law, contends that the cost-sharing reductions to insurers are illegal because Congress has not provided a specific appropriation for them — an argument the administration disputes. In May, a federal district judge ruled in favor of the House but left the subsidies in place while Obama officials appealed the decision.

Once Trump is sworn in, his administration could simply drop the appeal. At that point, the payments would stop, barring a reversal by the Republicans who sued to get rid of the subsidies. Lawmakers would then have to approve funds to keep the payments in place. A three-judge panel of the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has granted a House request to pause the case until Trump takes office.

Marco Rubio slipped in a rider essentially removing subsidies to the insurance companies.
When the insurance companies saw that they were losing massive amounts of monies,
they raised their premiums.
The announcement came about 2 weeks before the election.

Here's a link to the story describing exactly what little marco did.

Wouldn't he have to repeal everything, not just except for Part A, B, etc, that he may like? Does the individual mandate go away too? Pre-existing conditions? Children under 26?

Won't this also send the health insurance companies in chaos? Even putting aside the government subsidiaries, what about young, healthy people deciding they don't want to have health insurance and just dropping it entirely if there is no individual mandate?

Yes, I agree that this has far reaching economic consequences apart from the health issues.

from FSTV this afternoon. The thinking is the fascists will get rid of the mandate (which all the "big guvment" idiots hate), do a subsidy to take care of any insurance increase that will cause and rename the plan. Keep 90% as is and making it a republican plan, trumpcare. Those sneaky bastards could do it and get away with it.

But then that is why the mandate was put there via the Heritage Foundation in the first place. They may force a "health savings" option for that cost without adding the additional subsidies to cover the original mandate premium costs, but then having such would need to be "mandated" or a good chunk of people would lose insurance again.
