Bombshell report claims at least 50 Trump electors are illegitimate and should not have voted
Source: Raw Story
A bi-partisan legal team has issued a bombshell report challenging the Electoral College vote awarding Donald Trump the presidency, saying over 50 electors were seated illegally.
As reported by Steven Rosenfeld at Alternet, the group issued an executive summary of their Electoral Vote Objection Packet to Congressional members who are being asked to halt the certification the 2016 Electoral College results on Friday, January 6.
According to the report, We have reason to believe that there are at least 50 electoral votes that were not regularly given or not lawfully certified (16 Congressional District violations and 34 Dual Office-Holder violations. The number could be over a hundred. We urge you to prepare written objections for January 6.
At issue are charges that many of those who voted for Donald Trump were ineligible to serve as presidential electors because they either didnt live in the congressional district they represented or because they held elective office in states legally barring dual officeholders.

Does anyone really think this would not have been the lead story on the evening news if there was anything to it? Seriously?

(53,035 posts)he still has more than required to win the presidency. That 14 electors live outside a district and others hold two positions doesn't change how their states voted in the election and therefore how those state's electors are apportioned.

Russia destabilized Turkey with the same hacked/leaked government information and started with terrorist attack on the largest Airport in the world in Turkey. Two out of the three attackers had Russian passports. That started Russias invasion of Turkey only a short year ago.

Absent the fear of a Trump presidency, we'd consider this a laughable technicality and not even in anyway undermining a legit win by our candidate.

(11,569 posts)The sad truth is that Republicans have been cheating to win and getting away with it for a very long time. It's beyond ironic that considering all of their overt and covert action to suppress the vote under the guise of "protecting us from voter fraud," they have committed voting fraud in the Electoral College. It's highly unlikely this is their first time.

No doubt, what this report says is true... However, there is clear evidence of Kremlin meddling in the election and as a far worse charge has received ZERO action on the part of those who could actually do something about it. So, this far more nuanced issue will go nowhere.

(42,714 posts)For example, the dual office holder law in Georgia states that "no person holding any civil appointment or office having any emolument annexed thereto under the United States, this state, or any other state shall have a seat in either house." The elector that the report claims should be disqualified wasn't a member of the state senate or house, he/she was a member of the school board. There are other similar examples of over-reach/misinterpretation of state/local law. (For example, in Kansas, the law provides that a member of the state assembly that holds a second position is disqualified from being a member of the state assembly; thus, they wouldn't be disqualified from being an elector).
On top of that, the report indicates that there are similar issues with Democratic electors, but doesn't quantify the extent of those issues. Nor does it indicate how many Democratic electors in states that Trump won would have had the same allegedly disqualifying issues had Clinton won.
No one is going to take this seriously.
