Ohio seeks drug reversing lethal injection process if needed

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s prisons agency is trying to obtain a drug that could reverse the lethal injection process if needed by stopping the effects of another drug previously used in problematic executions.

The request to use the drug would come if executioners weren’t confident the first of three lethal drugs would render a prisoner unconscious, Gary Mohr, director of the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, said in federal court testimony Jan. 6.

Mohr said he would inform Republican Gov. John Kasich and ask for a reprieve at that point.

“Governor, I am not confident that we, in fact, can achieve a successful execution. I want to reverse the effects of this,” Mohr testified, describing the language he would use in such a circumstance.

1. Simple solution: no death penalty.

Alternative solution:. Death by firing squad.

Why if one is sentenced to death would people use ineffective drugs? Particularly if it is known that the people who have the drugs won't sell the proper drugs for killing people?

Death penalty is the easy way out. Life without parole should be the ultimate penalty. Also it's reversible. Death isn't reversible... yet.

2. That's "cruel and unusual."

Look, I'm no fan of the death penalty, but they'd be better off just OD'ing people on heroin than going through this bullshit.

Either that, or go back to tried/trues, like firing squad or hanging.

I think it's pathetic that a vet can do a better job "putting down" a being than the Bureau of Prisons.

It's all just reprehensible.
