Obama's parting letter to America: Thank you

Source: Politico

President Barack Obama wrote a thank-you letter to the nation Thursday morning, expressing his gratitude to the country for making him not only a better president but also a better man.

Addressing his missive to his fellow Americans, Obama noted that “(i)t’s a longstanding tradition for the sitting president” to leave a letter for his successor.

“It's a letter meant to share what we know, what we've learned, and what small wisdom may help our successor bear the great responsibility that comes with the highest office in our land, and the leadership of the free world,” the president wrote.

“But before I leave my note for our 45th president, I wanted to say one final thank you for the honor of serving as your 44th,” he continued. “Because all that I've learned in my time in office, I've learned from you. You made me a better president, and you made me a better man.”

That's one of a thousand things we won't have any more, starting tomorrow. God bless Mr. Obama and his family.

It is my greatest sorrow that my family, rethuglicans one and all, reject a President I admire for his accomplishments.

I first learned who you were, and heard you speak publicly, at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Your 'Purple America' speech. Your coming out party.

I wish I had said at that time: "There's America's first black President." I may have; I don't remember. What I do remember thinking is that when you announced your candidacy for President three years later, I dismissed your chances with the remark: "It will be another twenty years before we have our first black President."

I have never been so happy to be so wrong.

You gave us so much, sir. You will be missed.

You have earned your placed among America's greatest Presidents.
