Texas Dem: Trump has 'turned a blind eye to overt racism'

Source: The Hill

Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Texas) Thursday tore into President-elect Donald Trump Thursday in a series of tweets explaining his decision to boycott the president-elect's inauguration.

Vela blasted the Trump for not having any Hispanic representation in his Cabinet and for turning a "blind eye to overt racism."

Vela said that his decision to skip the ceremony was influenced by a lack of Hispanic Cabinet officials and an incident in which he says people in Washington for the inauguration used racial epithets to refer to students from his congressional district.

"While in DC, 40 migrant students from (Texas's 34th District) were subjected to comments of 'beaners,' 'burritos,' and 'wetbacks' from Inauguration attendees," Vela tweeted.

He promoted it and encouraged it at every campaign rally with his all white crowds.

That is how he got elected in certain states to throw the electoral college. He called out to the worst of the worst scum racists... when these rarely voting or never-voted folks heard the call, they woke up and came out to vote for him.

I'm angered but not surprised by the Trumpkins' behavior. Race-baiting has again been normalized: Latinos across the country can expect more of the same.

Unless.

Unless the lazy-@$$ non-voting Latinos not only register to vote but go to the polls to show right-wing politicians what happens when their followers indulge in this behavior and they sit back and do nothing.

Texas Afro-Americans have shown what can happen when they turn out to vote. Naturalized and US-born Latinos in Texas, Arizona, and other states can give Trumpkins a well-deserved repudiation.
