Anti-Gay, Anti-Muslim Pastor To Deliver Inauguration Day Sermon To Trump

Source: Talking Points Memo

By MATT SHUHAM Published JANUARY 19, 2017, 4:55 PM EDT

A conservative evangelical preacher with a history of making inflammatory statements about gays and Muslims is expected to preach at the traditional pre-inaugural morning service Friday at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Rev. Luis León, rector of St. John's Episcopal, told CNN about the plan to have Rev. Robert Jeffress, a Southern Baptist and a fervent supporter of President-elect Donald Trump, deliver a sermon in the private service. Another unnamed source involved in the service told the network that Jeffress was scheduled to take part in it.

Jeffress has built a reputation for attacking other religions over the years, especially in his capacity as a commentator on Fox News.

In 2010, Jeffress said Islam promoted pedophilia, violence and the oppression of women, claims he has often repeated. The worst thing about Islam, he said at the time, “is that it is a deception that leads people from the true God."

I do appreciate that they are so inclusive, but they do it so quietly that America simply now assumes that Christian = anti-women, anti-lgbt, anti-(minority group here)...

in getting their faces on TV as theirs are.

Are clergy run actually churches and deal with people on a one-to-one basis. They have money making mega churches that are there just to make money.

The press ignores us for the most part so we are invisible to them.

8. "That Man"

Republicans so hated Franklin Roosevelt they would not speak his name, referring to him instead as "That Man."

I have promised myself not to speak or write the name of the piece of shit who will be sworn in as President on January 20, 2017, referring instead to him as "That Man." I know -- sounds like sour grapes but it's my grapes.

So -- if you agree, find your own pet name for That Man and use it until he's impeached.

Dead going on 60 years, FDR still makes self-styled champions of American-style capitalism fulminate, much the same way their counterparts in the 1930s raged against "That Man." Why? The New Deal era reminds national greatness Republicans like Wehner of their party's futility in a time of true national greatness. I also suspect that many Republicans are simply unable to forgive Roosevelt for what may have been his greatest and longest-lasting achievement: saving American capitalism through regulation. And since they can't tear down the Triborough Bridge or the Hoover Dam, these guys act out by going after Social Security.

When Obama won the election, I was so looking forward to celebrating the inauguration of the first African American president. The first presidential election in ages I was really excited about - but the inclusion of Warren in such a prominent role just made me ill.

(Not as ill as Trump makes me, by any stretch of the imagination, but as to this aspect of the inauguration - we're living in a glass house, I'm afraid.)

Like today's evangelical supporters, Trump is a Political Christian, not a Christian of faith.

Evangelicals are easily able to spin their beliefs for political expediency.

The Donald who does not have to ask Jesus for forgiveness.
.

Super-Christian Trump has chosen a pastor who has stated "stated that Satan created Roman Catholicism".

For Trump who says Holy Communion is "Drink my little wine, have my little cracker".

Nice message to the country from the Donald!!
