Sources say Trump's CIA visit made relations with intel community worse
Source: CBS
U.S. government sources tell CBS News that there is a sense of unease in the intelligence community after President Trumps visit to CIA headquarters on Saturday.
An official said the visit made relations with the intelligence community worse and described the visit as uncomfortable.
Authorities are also pushing back against the perception that the CIA workforce was cheering for the president. They say the first three rows in front of the president were largely made up of supporters of Mr. Trumps campaign.
An official with knowledge of the make-up of the crowd says that there were about 40 people whod been invited by the Trump, Mike Pence and Rep. Mike Pompeo teams. The Trump team expected Rep. Pompeo, R-Kansas, to be sworn in during the event as the next CIA director, but the vote to confirm him was delayed on Friday by Senate Democrats. Also sitting in the first several rows in front of the president was the CIAs senior leadership, which was not cheering the remarks.

The article goes on to say that only about 400 members of the CIA workforce, out of THOUSANDS who were invited, were there.
And CBS's intelligence sources said many in the workforce "were stunned and at times offended" by Trump's speech.

(16,423 posts)In intelligence, accurate information can mean the difference between life and death. And the Trump administration happily invents "alternative facts" to satisfy the ego of a narcissist...
Would any of these people risk their lives and the lives of their agents based on information and decisions coming from that sort of administration?

Maybe they can work out a way of playing the briefings game with fake intel and "alternative facts" while keeping back channels to allied intel agencies open without his knowledge.

(498 posts)Then they can monitor the fake intel and see if it makes it's way to Putin.
Although, it probably won't work because I'm sure Russia has plenty of moles in the cia.

Can we find out who those 40 people were? Can we find out how many of them have served this country?
It seems to me that even his supporters should feel a bit sick about this. But then that means they have to have two skills, thinking and evaluating, and that's not happening.
Seriously, is there someway to find out who these people were? We need to light them up, put all of their personal information out there--
who they are, what kind of work they do, whether or not they've served the country, were they paid, how were they selected.
We have to make them an example-- like Rush did with Miss Fluke.

They had to see thru his bullcrap for sure. And then to be played for chumps what with his cheerleading squad, and the bogus "they all love me" stuff.....
no, just no
They are, of course, professionals who can keep a straight face, and keep things under wraps.
But one has to imagine behind closed doors they know Trump is a chump
And they of all people know the risks

(50,566 posts)Every intelligence service in the world has a desk that subscribes to, receives and processes information from private-sector news services like the AP, CNN, Reuters and Agence France-Press. The information so derived is called "open source." You're not supposed to base product solely on it - anyone can turn on CNN, right? - but it's good to use to fill in the gaps in your coverage.
Open source will be ALL Donald J. Taft ever receives in briefings. There is far too much risk in trusting him with anything even slightly sensitive.
