Paul Ryan: 'I've Seen No Evidence' of Trump's Claim of Voter Fraud

Speaker Paul Ryan was asked at a press conference earlier today about President Trump‘s claims of voter fraud.

In a meeting with congressional leaders yesterday, Trump reportedly once again brought up something he has expressed publicly, that there were millions of illegal votes cast in the presidential election. CBS’ Nancy Cordes asked Ryan about this today:

“Did you feel the need to correct him, and does it trouble you that he continues to hold a belief like this that isn’t based in fact?”


Ryan responded, “I’ve already commented on that. I’ve seen no evidence to that effect, and I’ve made that very, very clear.”

If Trump keeps to his assertions here - it really calls for an investigation.

The Dems need to call Trump on his allegations and make him put up or shut up.

Ryan needs to prevent any investigation. Cause an investigation of the voting and election process might uncover any funny stuff that the Repugs pulled to rig the election or cheat. We know that is the only way they can win is to cheat.

The other outcome of such an investigation is that it would shoot holes through their continual allegations that there is voter fraud and that people vote more than once, etc.

Either way the Repugs would lose cause we all know that 3 to 5 million people didn't vote illegally.

The Dems need to call for and push for an investigation about his claims that "3 to 5 million people" had voted illegally in the 2016 election. They need to say if this president believes this to be true that it completely undermines the whole election process and actions need to be taken to prevent this from happening in further elections.

They need to say that such an investigation needs to be comprehensive in that it will involve a thorough review of the voting and the election process in each state and that this investigation should result in standardizing the voting and election process across all the states. This would result in the possibility of either paper ballot voting or standardized voting machines (same in all states); prohibit reporting of results of an election until all votes are in across the country and they are reviewed and certified.

The American People need to be reassured that the process works and that their vote counts.

I believe that if the Dems push for such an investigation it will get the support of the American People or it will put Trump on notice that his lies have consequences and maybe prevent him from any future lies or putting out alternative facts.

We need to stand up to this bully. This is a good opportunity to stand up to him. Put up or shut up Trump.

before Lindsey Graham and the Repugs convince Trump to retract his allegation. Then we lose our advantage of putting them on the spot and this opportunity goes away.

The American People need to know that our democracy works. If 3 to 5 million voted illegally - we have a big problem. The Repugs should be just as concerned with getting to the bottom of this. Their president put them in this position - with his allegation.

Racists already challenge every minority at the polls.

Are they going to repeal the 19th amendment and start challenging women too?

Maybe as they make America more efficient with fewer regulations they'll repeal these job killing amendments:

14th amendment: Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. He's seen no evidence of Trump saying such, or he's seen no evidence of voter fraud. If, when pressed, he says it's the latter, he needs to be pressed on how he feels about Trump's baseless claims.

When given a dodge the press needs to pin them down.

Instead of truthfully saying that was complete bullshit, they use the "I've seen no evidence to support that".

Subtle, but the message is really; "of course, I believe that it true, we're just waiting for the evidence"

Our media really sucks. Do you think Walter Cronkite would let them get away with an answer like that?

Here's how a real journalist would respond to an answer like that.

- "so what you're saying is that the President is lying, right"?

- "so, you're going to start an investigation to produce that evidence"?

- "when you smear millions of Americans without any fact based rationale, isn't that slander"?

- "Are you slandering millions of Americans"?

- "Of those 3-5 million votes that Trump says are illegal, how many are Republican votes and how many are Democratic votes"?

- "Considering the gravity of the President's statement, will you call for a new election"?

Fuck these pricks and their Frank Luntz inspired assault on language!
