Gallup: Trump Net Approval Rating Drops 8 Points In First Week In Office
Source: TPM
President Donald Trumps net approval rating dropped by eight points in his first week in the Oval Office, according to daily polls tracked by Gallup.
On Sunday Jan. 22, two days after being sworn in, 45 percent of respondents said they disapproved of Trumps job performance and 45 percent approved. By Friday Jan. 27, the percentage who disapproved rose to 50 and percentage who approved dipped to 42.
Trump has had a busy but rocky first week in office, signing off a series of executive orders laying out major policy changes like a temporary ban on refugees and on citizens from seven majority-Muslim nations. He had a friendly meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday, but raised tensions with Mexican president Enrique Pea-Nieto over his insistence that Mexico will pay for a southern border wall that the country does not want.
Other national surveys show similarly low approval ratings for the President. Forty-four percent of respondents to a Quinnipiac survey released Thursday said they disapproved of his handling of the presidency thus far, while only 36 percent approved.

(10,903 posts)...it is amazing how he's doing everything possible to make himself unpopular.
If he wants the popularity he craves, then he needs to do the opposite. He needs to become a progressive.

(65,393 posts)GOP establishment are currently stroking his ego to keep him compliant, so he also plays to their wishes. The majority of Americans despise and mock him, so he wants to do what they hate. That pleases his fans and upsets those he calls his enemies (as in his New Year's tweet).

(5,611 posts)that his numbers are in the dirt. I frankly don't believe his numbers are even over 40% -- and wait until the shit really starts to hit the fan with the nightmare healthcare repeal (steal) and outrageous treatment of refugees and immigrants. And now Trump has a very friendly, very long phone convo with Putin while blatantly screwing over our allies like Mexico and even Great Britain.
Not to mention the thousands of federal jobs he is slashing when he was supposed to be the "jobs president" -- lmfao. Those poor people are suffering massively. Now he wants to slash national security jobs.

(99 posts)He said he would do (leaving Russia & FBI's meddling out of the equation for now). This what the people wanted who voted for him. They wanted a tyrant who would rule with an iron fist and they got one. Let a Democratic governor shake a finger in his face. Let a congressman shout out "You lie!" during one of his addresses...and see how he handles it.
God forbid, let another mass killing take place on this soil and see how many tears he sheds over the lives lost. Lets see how he comforts the family of fallen soldiers when he meets their flag-draped coffins at Dover Air Base.
There is no compassion in him and the feckless idiots who have the majority in the senate and congress are so afraid he'll tweet something nasty about them and cause them to lose their seats that they'll sit around twisting on their thumbs while America burns to the ground literally and figuratively.

(34,857 posts)Your guilty conscience may move you to vote Democratic, but deep down you long for a cold-hearted Republican to lower taxes, brutalize criminals, and rule you like a king.
Sadly, it's true. Way too true. So many Americans want a tyrant king - not a compassionate compromising president.

(409 posts)Ohio's demographics were favorable for Trump to overperform relative to Romney in 2012. If Hillary really won Ohio, she should have also won Iowa, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

(5,167 posts)"Suppressed" can mean fewer early voting days, stricter registration rules, etc.
Under that measure, Rep Ryan could easily be correct.

(2,566 posts)I don't think "he" really won WI, MI, and PA, either.

(409 posts)National opinion polls were about one percentage point off, and Silver's projections were much more cautious about Hillary's chances -- and his reasoning for the caution was correct (correlated errors between similar states, wide error bars, etc.). The real losers were people who put Hillary's chances at close to 100%, like Sam Wang.

(2,566 posts)I wish I could believe that polls mattered. There is an undertow that is making polls, however accurate, look like icing on a pretend cake.

(34,857 posts)State polls are a completely different animal. National polls were spot-on - and that's what an approval poll is.
