Obama defies anti-American jibe on rival's turf

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — US President Barack Obama jetted into the Republican bastion of Texas on Tuesday to raise funds and burnish his nationwide appeal as opponents called his American identity into question.

¬snip¬

In the latest swipe, former New Hampshire governor John Sununu sneered that he wished the Obama "would learn how to be an American" -- a comment that called previous attacks on the black president's identity and background.

But Romney did not distance himself from Sununu.

Indeed, in a speech in Irwin, Pennsylvania he appeared to double down on the attack, branding Obama's approach to the US economy "extraordinarily foreign."

Romney surrogate Sununu Channels Rush

Once again whatever Rush wants, Rush gets. On his show yesterday, conservative talk show titan Rush Limbaugh angrily said Camp Romney needs to go after Obama on the college-age drug use Obama admitted to in a passage in his biography. So today Romney’s high profile surrogate John Sununu — yew guessed it! – raised the drug issue and also told reporters Obama needs to learn how to be an American.

Sununu on Fox:

“He has no idea how the American system functions,” Sununu said on Fox News Tuesday. “And we shouldn’t be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent … another set of years in Indonesia.”

And to reporters:

In a brutal campaign conference call Tuesday organized by Mitt Romney’s campaign, several of the candidate’s surrogates went after President Obama with fiery attacks accusing him of socialism, and being un-American.

“I wish this president would learn how to be an American,” said former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu said toward the beginning of the call. Asked later to explain his comment, Sununu said he was referring to Obama’s economic philosophy, and apologized for not being clearer.

was talking about himself and his escapades of using tax-payer military aircraft to visit the dentist, fund raisers and a wedding.

Romney was thinking about his investments overseas.

How these two can say that the current POTUS is un-American just shows more desperation from the right.

Virtually 99% of anything that Rush, their leader has ever said over the years has been nothing but adolescent ranting. Check out this video of him getting his ass handed to thim by David Letterman. You can skip most of it to see where Letterman tells him off near the end, but you see that he hasn't changed a bit.

His foul mouthed, stunted sex life was revealed as he attacked Sandra Fluke and then he kept on. His utterances on pay per play sex hearkened to his scandal of taking Republicans to the Carribean where he was found with dozens of Viagra pills and no wife in sight. He admtted on his teevee show in the nineties he hadn't consummated his marriage to Marta for months or years.

They all appear to be the emotional level of small brats, having one temper tantrum after another, and yet the media continues the farce of them having any notion of how to solve any of America's needs. They have no solutions since they are the problem keeping this nation from going forward. Screw Sununu and whatever he rode in on this discussion.

He was born in Havana, Cuba, and his mother was from El Salvador. That don't sound very American to me.

5. So Romney has chosen the "Palin Scorched Earth" style "extraordinarily foreign." Here it comes..
Tue Jul 17, 2012, 06:19 PM
Jul 2012

Turns out that Romney isn't capable of campaigning on his own record, nor clever enough to campaign on Obama's record.. he and the rest of them have.. this week.. apparently settled on the "he's not ONE OF US!!!" tactics that Palin used, and whipped up the unstable masses at her events in 2008.

So this is it. This is the new meme. Rush always foreshadows it, then as it distributes from fax to fax, from email to email, it is THE new talking point and apparently the new focus of the Romney campaign: Obama is unAmerican. He's not like us. He's a foreigner. He's a "pot smoking Indonesian." This is how McCain/Palin lost their only chance. They weren't bright enough to fight FOR themselves, they chose to attack Obama in a personal way, and it backfired.

This is why that wingnut Sheriff Joe is holding his press conference today with earth shattering news of a forgery proving Obama to be a Kenyan.

The GOP is now the Birther Party.

6. As opposed to Romney's 'economic plan,' our sourcing jobs and hiding his money off shore.

Uh, that is to say:

He associates more with anti/not-American economies than he does the pro/in-America economy.

Can anyone be that clueless and still be able to breathe?

His GOP Tea Party is that clueless, since despite their CT spiel, they'll vote for a man who is a real globalist. Not in some futuristic setting, but right now.

Obama has been using documents signed by Mitt Romney that appear to show Romney is either lying about when he left Bain or he files false statements with the SEC and others. Tough but fair.

So what is the Romney response? Well, to send out his attack dogs to point out how different Obama is from ordinary Americans (he's black) and how un-American he is. Not only that, but he smoked pot and did other drugs in his teens. A racist character assassination none by a bully with a long history of being a bully -- remember in high school how Romney and his buddies tackled another student thought to be gay and Romney took sissors and cut off the long hair of that student. Nice.

Obviously, Obama needs to keep up the Bain attacks and question what Romney has to hide by not releasing his tax returns.

As far as the un-American attacks go, how American is it to shut down plants in America and open new plants overseas? Or to just shut down plants after raiding the treasury of those companies. Or to set up companies in tax havens to help foreign companies avoid American taxes. Since Obama did none of that it is hard to see how he can be accused of being un-American.

I smell desperation coming from Romney and it is ugly, any way you turn it. Really ugly.

It boggles my mind that they would use that. It turns off almost anyone under 30 and about 75% under 40. The new generation has been brought up with diversity and consensus-building in mind.

"Obama needs to learn to be American" is as blatant as saying "Obama is not white." It will backfire and the only people cheering for it will be teabaggers.
