Attorney General Jeff Sessions won’t rule out going after legal pot with law designed to take down mafia

On Hugh Hewitt’s show Thursday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions doubled down on his anti-marijuana stance and suggested his department might go after pot businesses with laws designed to take down the mafia.

“I think it’s a more dangerous drug than a lot of people realize. I don’t think we’re going to be a better community if marijuana is sold in every corner grocery store,” the attorney general told Hewitt. Hewitt proposed a strategy for the federal government to clamp down on marijuana businesses in states where it’s legal: bringing racketeering charges against legal marijuana businesses.

“One RICO prosecution against one marijuana retailer in one state that has so-called legalization ends this façade and this flaunting of the Supremacy Clause. Will you be bringing such a case?” Hewitt asked Sessions. Sessions did not embrace the suggestion—but he didn’t rule it out, either.

“We will um … marijuana is against federal law, and that applies in states where they may have repealed their own anti-marijuana laws,” Sessions said in response. “So yes, we will enforce law in an appropriate way nationwide. It’s not possible for the federal government, of course, to take over everything the local police used to do in a state that’s legalized it.”

I'd take Deputy Fife in the AG position any day. At least he had a undeniable profound respect for the law.

The police won't ask for party affiliation. (at least not yet!)

Populist Independents like Jesse Ventura will not take this without a fight. As well I'm guessing many Republican voters now used to dropping by their corner weed store.

"I think it’s a more dangerous drug than a lot of people realize." BULLSHIT. I've been smoking it off and on for 27 years now. Zero danger to it; just more fear-mongering and scare tactics from the crowd that rejects science in favor of superstitious dogma.

This asshole lied about his connections to the Russians amidst yet another scandal indicating this administration was installed via collusion with a foreign government. And the same asshole wants civil rights stuff sent back to the states so they can discriminate, but states rights doesn't matter when he's forcing his misguided, idiotic beliefs on people.

I live in Massachusetts where marijuana has been legalized. Even the state legislators here are dragging their feet on getting the doors of pot shops opened up for business. I HAVE HAD IT. It's legal, it's harmless, and it's a boon to people like me who drink too much alcohol and would like to switch to something less harmful.

I will not allow this shameless little toad to negatively impact my life in any way, shape or form. Legal or not, threats or not, I'm going to exercise my freedoms. These turds only care about freedom when they want to discriminate or target other people, of course.

They said they would with more research.

Decriminalize it. Call it a program and get Sessions tiny little mitts out of it.
In no way does it belong with the other dangerous narcotics.

We may be at a point where enough people support it that at least 1 person can manage to get on to jury to nullify.
