Dem uses new tactic to get Trump's tax returns

Source: The Hill

BY NAOMI JAGODA - 03/10/17 11:56 AM EST

Democrats are trying a new tactic in their campaign to get their hands on President Trump's tax returns.

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) on Friday introduced a "resolution of inquiry" directing Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to provide the House with copies of 10 years of Trump's tax returns, as well as any information the department has on Trump's debt held by foreign governments and companies, investments in foreign countries and businesses, and use of tax-avoidance maneuvers. Under House rules, resolutions of inquiry can be brought to the House floor if they are not considered in committee within 14 legislative days.

Trump is the first president in decades to not make his tax returns public. He has said he won't release his tax returns while he is under audit by the IRS, though the IRS has said that nothing prevents people from releasing their own tax information.

"The smoldering pile of potential conflicts around President Trump is starting to flare up. Whether it's branding deals with foreign governments or local D.C. businesses claiming the President's hotel holds an unfair advantage, we cannot ignore the signs," Pascrell said in a statement. "I'm a firm believer in the maxim where there's smoke, there's fire. The smoke is billowing out of the White House right now. We need to act and we have the power to act. I'm not sure what we're waiting for."

2/28/2017

Republican lawmakers on the House Judiciary Committee voted against a Resolution of Inquiry Tuesday night that would have provided the House with a wide swath of information about President Donald Trump’s ethics violations and alleged ties to Russia.
The vote ran down partisan lines, with 18 Republicans voting against and 16 Democrats voting for.

The resolution was introduced weeks ago by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), who began his statements in the committee by noting the mounting questions concerning Trump’s foreign business entanglements and “his inexplicably cozy business relationship with Russia.
“Each day, Democrats on this committee and on other committees have requested hearings and investigations into these serious issues. And yet each day, with a few exceptions, we have been met with a deafening silence from our Republican colleagues,” Nadler said, citing GOP lawmakers’ inaction as the reason for introducing the resolution.

The resolution represents a formal request from Congress to the Department of Justice, asking for a wide swath of information relevant to issues dogging Trump’s presidency.
Specifically, it would have asked the DOJ to turn over, within 14 days, any information relevant to: conflicts of interest stemming from Trump’s decision to maintain ownership of his companies, any ethics violations pertaining to either Trump or any of his federal employees, payments by foreign governments made to organizations Trump owns (a violation of the constitution’s Emoluments Clause), and any information the DOJ has about connections between Trump’s aides and Russia.

The Democrats on the Judiciary Committee say this information is essential for the House to conduct its constitutionally-mandated oversight duties. Additionally, Nadler cited the potential conflicts posed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who was heavily involved with the Trump campaign, and who has thus far refused to recuse himself from the investigation.
“It is not clear that he could be impartial, or that he will even conduct an investigation at all. Therefore, we must ensure that we in the House get access to any information the Department of Justice has so that we can do our own investigation,” said Nadler.
Chair of the Committee Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) objected to Nadler’s resolution, calling it “politically charged,” objecting routinely to every amendment offered by Democrats as “broadening” the reach of an “already too-broad resolution.”

I told my brother I wished someone in the IRS would fall on sworn for the good of country and send the returns to the NY Times or WaPo or to anyone who would make them public. My brother said Trump's returns are probably locked up tighter than gold in Fort Knox though.

Returns so realistic and that make Trump look so bad that he might consider putting out his real ones to improve the situation. Meanwhile, even if he didn't he'd still look bad.

Unfortunatly, people who do realistic fake stuff usually work for the opposition.

Something has to be done to shake-up the believers in Trump as the Messiah and time is of the essence.

I'm also a pragmatist I believe this might actually work.

However, it would take someone with skills beyond mine to come up with and distribute returns which would be effective and not easily traced or exposed as simply an amateurish attempt to tarnish their savior.

he was the number #2 head thief over there with the Bank of Cyprus , laundering the money and they are still laundering money from the Putin gang

There is a bag man doing this "stuff". And Maddow in my opinion has connected the dots.

And as a side note of importance. Guess what this "guy" was rushed through the Senate and confirmed to be the Commerce Sec and was voted 72 - 25 to confirm

And just to add to this remember those tax returns, if you sell a home or buy one you either pay a tax on that house as earned income, unless you purchase another "primary residence" that's how it works, so how much did he pay in taxes out of the 100 million

The American people absolutely have a right to know if their President is compromised by his foreign business entanglements. Our national security is at stake. Our future is jeopardized by Trump's wild musings as to the virtue of Vladimir Putin.
