Sessions Was Notified of Giuliani Bid for Deal in Gold Traders Case

Source: MSN/NY Times

Mr. Zarrab, a gold trader from Turkey charged with conspiring to violate United States sanctions on Iran, is described by prosecutors as having considerable wealth and political influence. Even Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has weighed in, criticizing the prosecution and raising the matter last year with Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. during talks at the United Nations.

Now, negotiations in the case have taken on a new dimension, deepening Mr. Erdogan’s involvement, but also broadening to include Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, and Michael B. Mukasey, an attorney general in President George W. Bush’s administration.

Mr. Giuliani, who is close to President Trump, and Mr. Mukasey were retained by Mr. Zarrab to try to negotiate a resolution to the charges, but in an unusual departure from how almost all criminal cases are conducted, the talks have not been with the United States attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York, which is prosecuting Mr. Zarrab.

Instead, Mr. Giuliani and Mr. Mukasey have sought to meet with other Trump administration officials — over the prosecutors — to discuss a potential resolution of the case, according to new court filings on Friday. The two men have also traveled to Turkey to meet with Mr. Erdogan to discuss how such a disposition might be reached — a trip that Attorney General Jeff Sessions was told about, the new filings indicate.

Well, I guess it was just fortunate for the defendant that Preet Bharara was fired.

6. Mike Flynns lawyer predicted that Trump would make novel and unusual use of presidential pardons

Trump has no shame. With a Republican majority that refuses to hold him accountable, it is no wonder that Trump has been so flagrant in his abuses and conflicts of interest.

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/03/mike-flynns-lawyer-predicted-in-2016-trump-would-make-novel-and-unusual-use-of-presidential-pardons/

If former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn isn’t granted immunity in exchange for testifying before the Senate Intelligence Community, could he simply obstruct justice and then hope for a presidential pardon from President Donald Trump?

Robert Kelner, an attorney at Covington & Burling LLP who is serving as Flynn’s counsel, predicted in 2016 that Trump as president would expand the use of presidential pardons in ways that the country had never seen before.

“A prediction: Donald Trump will make novel and unusual use of the President’s pardon power,” he wrote last November, in a tweet cited by Bruce Bartlett on Friday morning.

Kelner also went on to describe presidential pardons as “an under-utilized tool of political power.”

9. You don't seem to understand immunity deals

NOBODY gives an immunity deal without knowing in advance what the testimony is going to be. And if the person immunized strays one comma from that testimony, his/her immunity is gone. Immunity will only be given if

They believe what they're told (which is why they will wait until they have most of the story already)
If they can't get the evidence any other way
If the person doesn't later lie about the testimony

Further - if they have evidence Flynn committed a crime and they have that evidence without flynn's immunized testimony, they theoretically can still prosecute him but that becomes a real issue which is why that scumbag oliver north is still walking free. It's because of him that the feds are far more careful about who they give immunity to.

he could have something on some of the Repugnants in Congress and if he does they might be willing to offer immunity for his silence and then pretend to have been hoodwinked when it turns out to have have been a "scam" on his part to get immunity.

The head Democrat on the intelligence committees (house and senate) would have to see the proffer in order for him to get immunity. You seem to be saying he could LIE in his proffer and the committees will have to accept that - like I posted above, if he strays ONE COMMA from his proffer, he's done. I don't know why you seem to think this can be done under the cover of night. After what happened to oliver north, this will be the most closely looked at part of any investigation which is why nunes is so desperate to muck up the investigation before it gets to that point.

Apr 2017

They are tying their investigations to the FBI and if the FBI doesn't want him to have immunity, there is nothing the republicans ALONE can do about it. This isn't something that can be "rammed through" and his proffer will have to become public to make sure he sticks to every single word in it. Unless he's got the goods on someone higher than himself, they wont give it to him.

This deal goes south, it sinks both Sessions and Giuliani. Is that correct?

It could be a real bargain.
