WASHINGTON President Trump said on Wednesday that he thought that the former national security adviser Susan E. Rice may have committed a crime by seeking the identities of Trump associates who were mentioned on intercepted communications and that other Obama administration officials may also have been involved.
I think its going to be the biggest story, Mr. Trump said in an interview in the Oval Office, declining repeated requests for evidence for his allegations or the names of other Obama administration officials. Its such an important story for our country and the world. It is one of the big stories of our time.
He declined to say if he had personally reviewed new intelligence to bolster his claim but pledged to explain himself at the right time.
When asked if Ms. Rice, who has denied leaking the names of Trump associates under surveillance by United States intelligence agencies, had committed a crime, the president said, Do I think? Yes, I think.

(17,009 posts)He said he thinks. That is obviously, patently, false. But about the other stuff. She didn't unmask anything. The agency that produced the raw Intel did the unmasking. She may have asked, in the course of doing her job, a name be unmasked but the producer of the Intel did the unmasking.

(115,783 posts)Rice was the National Security Advisor. She was doing her job. Did SCROTUS mention that there would have been no intercepts at all if there hadn't been FISA warrants authorizing them, or that Rice would have had to sought and received permission for the names to be unmasked, and that she didn't tell anyone whose names those were?
Of course not. More chaff.

President Nixon may have freed Charles Manson-not by an act of executive clemency, but by one of errant stupidity. ... Defense attorneys for Manson, Leslie Van Houten, and Susan Atkins-who face charges of murder stemming from the mass killings last August of actress Sharon Tate and six other persons-moved for a mistrial yesterday after learning that Nixon had said that Manson was "guilty, directly or indirectly, of eight murders without reason."
Trial Judge Charles N. Holder denied the motion pending an official version of the Nixon remarks, but a defense attorney said the judge was "alarmed" at the report.
Oops
Late last night, however, Nixon said flatly he did not mean to imply that Manson was guilty.
....
In Los Angeles, defense attorney Paul Fitzgerald told reporters, "If we're going to have the chief executive of this nation categorically or uncategorically speculate on people's guilt, we ought to abandon this court system. Maybe President Nixon in a news conference ought to determine whether these people are guilty."

(57,547 posts)if any prosecutor ever did bring charges against Susan Rice, her attorneys would immediately move to dismiss them on the grounds that any jury, anywhere, anytime, anyplace, would haven been prejudiced by *****'s pronouncement.
And by "*****," I mean T****, not Nixon.
Juliusseizure
(562 posts)My point Nixon didn't make the allegation against innocent political opposition for purposes of cover up.
I hope every one of these tweets just adds to impeachable obstruction charges.
But Trump was careful to frame it as an opinion, as would the Hannity's. Otherwise, its a defamation suit. Journalists should ask him "so you're saying Rice committed a criminal offense?" forcing him to weasel out of it.

(53,801 posts)Typical of this liar trying to divert away from the Russian collusion investigation so he targets O's National Security Advisor who did her job as National Security Advisor in making it her office's business in finding out who in his campaign was talking surreptitiously to the Russians.
If she hadn't done exactly that she'd have been in dereliction of duty.

(7,433 posts)Trumpy ASSUMES that there is NO Russia/Trump connection or relationship. Even though that's an in-your-face lie, Trumpy's blaming of everyone starts there. Then he can surmise that the "unmasking" of Trump campaign people can only be considered politically (and NOT law enforcement) motivated, because there wouldn't be another viable reason for the unmasking. Trumpy is playing this fundamantal denial, that there was NO collusion with Russia, to the very end. All of his distractions and allegations only make sense with the fundamental denial.

(7,635 posts)Its working anyway. The gop senators are already falling all over themselves to conflate this with the real investigation about collusion with russia and saying they will get to the bottom of this and ask rice to testify.
Trump has figured out he can gum up the whole investigation simply by throwing wild accusations and have it picked up by the committees.
