Man Dragged Off United Flight Had Concussion, Broken Nose, Lawyer Says

Source: CBS Chicago

April 13, 2017 10:24 AM

CHICAGO (CBS) — The attorney for Dr. David Dao, the man dragged off a United Airlines flight on Sunday, said his client suffered a “significant concussion,” a broken nose, and lost two teeth in the incident at O’Hare International Airport.

Three Chicago Department of Aviation security officers pulled Dao out of his seat and dragged him down the aisle after he refused to give up his seat voluntarily. The airline had sought volunteers to take another flight so four United employees could get to Louisville to crew another plane on Monday.

Attorney Thomas Demetrio said Dao emigrated from Vietnam after surviving the Vietnam War. “He said that being dragged down the aisle was more horrifying than what he experienced in Vietnam,” Demetrio said.

Demetrio said Dao was released from the hospital Wednesday night.

The National Law Journal named him one of the top ten lawyers in the nation [1] and one of the top ten trial lawyer in Illinois [2] and since its inception in 2005, Lawdragon has named him one of the top 500 Leading Lawyers in America.[3] He served as the president of the Chicago Bar Association and president of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.[4

Usually represents passengers in crashes. Chicago gets a lot of this work due to United being located here and sympathetic juries.

Two teeth knocked out.
A concussion.

And he's 69 years old.

Remember-- Bill O'Reilly laughed.

It's so funny, isn't it? So god damned funny that Bill-O laughed.

Well, the doctor and his attorney will be taking United Air Lines for all they can get.

Will that make Bill-O laugh?

Already, tourists from Asian countries are cancelling plans to travel to the US.

Will that make Bill-O laugh?

Way back when good old Ronnie Reagan told us that de-regulation would be wonderful.

That makes me laugh.

We had a pile of urgent business of our own to take care of, or I would have listened to the whole thing.

That poor soul had his nose broken and his teeth knocked out. A "significant concussion" and PTSD from his war experience accounts for his state when he returned to the airplane -- running down the aisle crying in a high-pitched voice, "I have to get home! I have to get home! I have to get home!"

I want to hear from our brave DUers who counsel us all to submit or we deserve what happens to us. He submitted. He was rational until they started to beat him up and haul him out of his seat.

I read that on one of the reports, the taser could have knocked him out or caused convulsions.
That would explain the concussion and other injuries.

Nobody ever said - why did they pick this guy?

The plane was full of people and nobody gave up their seat. So they pick this guy's name out of a hat?
Or maybe it's because he has a foreign-sounding name? It's a sickening thought!

I hope the CEO of United resigns and they have a complete reorganization.

Factors like frequent flyer miles and disabilities decrease your chance of being picked.

So many people were using his reaction as justification for the treatment he received. Apparently, it wasn't the way they would have reacted, and therefore what happened to him wouldn't ever happen to them, which makes what happened to him completely acceptable.

He also said, "Just kill me" when the cops came back to get him the second time. The physical assault he endured probably triggered very painful memories. Poor guy.

you're supposed to be silent - because that's what a real doctor is supposed to do, according to some DUers.

Nobody gonna say no to them, no suh!

They should have been fired on the spot.

A lot of people are going to get sued over this one and it will be successful

Fast recovery to Dr. Dao.

When the film of the beating first showed up it was a bit longer.

When they were dragging the doctor off of the plane one of the male passengers yelled out, "Right on!" as they dragged him by. I have not seen that additional footage since.

What kind of an ugly world are we living in anyway?

This has a multi-layer batch of lies and hatred to it IMO.

Letter: I was on United flight 3411. Here's what I saw.
April 11, 2017, 1:00 PM

Unfortunately, I was aboard United Airlines flight 3411 from Chicago to Louisville, Ky., on Sunday. Even more unfortunate was the fact that I was returning from a spring break trip with seven of my students from Louisville Male High School who also witnessed the unconscionable treatment of the passenger.

The disgusting mishandling of the situation included everyone from the rude ticket agent who demanded that this man give up his seat on the flight United overbooked, to one of the officers laughing in the midst of the incident, to the violent, abusive way the passenger was dragged off the plane by the officer. It was the worst possible model for my students, and frankly, was traumatizing to many of us who watched this from such close proximity.

What are we modeling for our children? Are we teaching our children to scream at other people, to jump quickly to force if we can’t get the results we want, to use violence to solve problems, to have total disrespect for other people?

I was appalled at how United Airlines and the officers handled the situation, but I was also encouraged by my fellow passengers’ attempts to interfere — despite how helpless we all felt. Some passengers audibly protested to the officers, some stood and removed themselves from the plane rather than continue to witness the abuse, and one father, while trying to console his 8-year-old daughter, confronted the officer saying, among other things, “you ought to be ashamed of yourself!” These are the models of which I hope our children will see more.

— Jason Powell, Louisville, Ky.

How very sad that there are people like this. They encourage such incidents to occur! Shame on all of them!

It saddens me greatly I must admit!
