AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A private prison company has announced a $110 million federal contract to build the first new immigrant detention center under the Trump administration.
The GEO Group said Thursday the 1,000-bed detention center will be in Conroe, Texas, north of Houston. It's scheduled to open by December 2018.

(1,865 posts)Thanks for the post.
Makes me sad tho.
Also, Conroe is an odd choice, mostly upscale, not exactly needing the "jobs" this may provide. Can't imagine those Conroe residents being pleased about it.

(1,907 posts)And a whole lot of wooded areas around here. The Texas A&M University system owns and operates the Jones State Forest. The texas repub's are going for sale of part of the 1,722-acre property. That's one possible place, but there is a lot of already commercially available acreage around here.

(410 posts)$110,000,000 total / 1000 beds = $110,000 per bed.....WTF?
You can by a decent house for $110K, away from the "urban/suburban" rich folk clubs.
Of course DeVos does not want people understand number 3 times their paycheck, because they would call bullshit on just about every program there is and use the savings to feed the children at school.
