Hundreds protest outside Russian embassy for gay men in Chechnya

By Alex Bollinger · Friday, April 14, 2017

Hundreds of activists gathered outside the Russian embassy to protest gay and bisexual men reportedly being tortured in secret detention sites in Chechnya.

Protesters were responding to reports that over 100 gay and bisexual men have been rounded up in Chechnya, a part of the Russian Federation. At least three of the men were tortured to death.

The Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta reported earlier this month on the detention sites using testimony from gay people. Many of the people sent to the sites were arrested in sweeps where a law enforcement official would pose as a gay person looking for sex online.

Journalist Elena Milashina, who broke the story, revealed to the BBC that she has been forced into hiding, and spoke from a secret location, according to PinkNews.

Muslims are torturing and murdering gays in Chechnya, not Christians.

I don't think you'll find widespread support for torturing and murdering gays, as is practiced in much of the Islamic world, among Christians in the United States.

So maybe he a secret Muslim or maybe the problem is fundamentalism in general.

And you want to blame fundamentalism in general? I'm sure gays who are being tortured and murdered in Chechnya, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Nigeria, and Somalia can appreciate the solidarity they share with gays in Alabama and Mississippi who fully understand their suffering.

It would be nice if the IGLA put together a planned demonstration against Russian embassies in as many countries as possible.
