Chaffetz confirms he may step down before his term ends (rumor mill says TOMORROW)

Source: KSL TV Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, confirmed Thursday he may step down before the end of his term, raising the possibility of a special election to fill his 3rd District seat in Congress.

"My future plans are not yet finalized, but I haven't ruled out the possibility of leaving early. In the meantime, I still have a job to do, and I have no plans to take my foot off the gas," Chaffetz said in a statement.

On Wednesday, Chaffetz made a surprise announcement that he would not run for re-election to the House seat he's held since 2008 or for any other office in 2018, but said a bid for governor in 2020 he's talked about before was still a "maybe."

It will be up to Gov. Gary Herbert to call a special election for Chaffetz's seat if he leaves before his current term ends at the beginning of 2019, but there is no process in place in state law.

The buzz is that he's going to resign tomorrow. I suppose we should know the reason for this before too long.

He would certainly lose his temple recommend. And he would most probably be disfellowshipped.

Religious underwear...crime fighting ChaffedNutz...it's called a joke. Were you born without a sense of humor or do you just roam DU looking to feign butt hurt? Either way, magic underwear is pretty goddamned funny imho.

Is someone proposing banning Mormon underwear, or has anyone tried to forcibly remove Mormon underwear from some law abiding Mormon? No.

I think all kinds of religious garments are odd, but that is very different from suggesting that I or anyone else has any right to dictate what other people wear to keep their gods happy.

I don't care what his religious beliefs are. I care that he is a criminal.

It is sad when our society treats a good human being like Hillary Clinton so unfairly while treating a dishonest person like Jason Chaffetz as if he were a respectable member of Congress.
