Conservative Radio Host Hugh Hewitt May Be Getting a Show on MSNBC

Source: Mediaite

Today MSNBC announced that Nicolle Wallace––former McCain-Palin ’08 senior advisor and current NBC News political analyst––will be hosting a new 4 pm weekday show on the network. And now it appears conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt may be next up for a hosting position.

Hewitt, an MSNBC political analyst, has not only appeared on the network for a while now, but he has made appearances on Meet the Press panels in the last few months. Yashar Ali reports for New York Magazine that the liberal network is in talks with Hewitt for a program that would air on “weekend evenings.”

Wallace’s 4 pm program and Hewitt’s reported show will be in addition to Morning Joe––Joe Scarborough being a former Republican congressman––and Greta Van Susteren––formerly of Fox News––in providing analysis that won’t exactly win over all of MSNBC’s liberal audience. And yes, if you’re wondering, the New York Magazine report does contain behind-the-scenes information about how some at the network have been apparently taking these changes:

Just maybe, IF msnbc is able to get some O'Reilly viewers, they will be exposed to a more moderate version of Republicanism. This would be helpful in getting some of them to cross the line, and the rest of them not to be rabidly anti-liberal.

Morning Joe, while a Republican and certainly partisan in some respects, is pretty balanced, and he's not a far righter.

I'm thinking that since MJ went over so well (it's the #2 morning program), MSNBC is expanding into having more major moderate programs to counter the progressive ones. NBC hired that Fox broadcaster that Trump went after, Megan Kelly, from Fox, to host in a morning show.

If Fox's ratings can be chipped away, that's a good thing. As long as MSNBC leaves its progressive programs in place.

Schultz kept walking in verboten territory by backing labor. Rachel may be doing the same with the Russia connection. Note that no one even mentions net neutrality anymore - look at the ownership at MSNBC.

MSNBC has a history of dumping decent to good rated left wing shows in favor of less -um- abrasive hosts.

Anyone who thinks they care about ratings OR especially cares about presenting both sides may have missed some history. Unless Rachel knows where some bodies are buried she could easily suffer the same fate as Donohue, Olbermann (I know, he quit) and Schultz.

And what will we do? Send nasty emails and shake our fists at the sky?

My informal survey of "liberal" media in this country turns up Freespeech tv, a few radio stations (WCPT in Chicago and KTNF in the twin cities - there is probably more I can't hear), a couple of spots on Sirius radio and a couple of magazines like Mother Jones and the Nation.

That is about it AFAIK. Movement conservative went on a media buying spree starting in the 197os following the Powell memo. They own 95+% of media. It is like a black hole, light can't emerge from it.

Back to MSNBC - Comcast owns it and they won't allow a few loose lips to sink their ship.

One other note - NPR - I seldom listen anymore. Right wing talking points are put out and seldom disputed on NPR. Guess that is fair and balanced.

Their primary motivation is not profits with MSNBC. It's to get their business-oriented, conservative messages out, as well as to suppress messages about progressive causes.

So, for example, have there been any recent comprehensive discussions of net neutrality?

Without a progressive-oriented MSNBC, we liberals have lost one of the very valuable information resources that pulls us together.

May 2017

MSNBC isn't some beacon of righteousness...they are just there to make money after all. They could give a shit about journalistic integrity or any of that shit. They have none.

Any impressions of that are solely for ratings and profit. They are a for-profit, commercial cable entertainment channel. Their goal is increasing value for the stockholders, keeping the system of corporate power in place. Best to keep the majority of the population arguing amongst ourselves rather than realizing we actually have more in common and could unite to incite real social and political change.

Corporate control is the elephant in the room but we are distracted and encouraged to fight each other over petty bullshit and lies. Thus they have succeeded so far.

Not that this should be a big shock to anyone.
Just sayin'.
