Alex Jones Calls A Press Conference To Tell Reporters They Suck

The gag order from his child custody trial has been lifted. Lucky us.

AUSTIN, Texas ― Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones called a press conference Friday to explain to reporters just how deceptive they are, whether covering his contentious child custody trial or dismissing what he views as urgent public health issues, like the cross-breeding of pigs with humans.
Referring to reporters as fops and fake news, the radio host and famed Donald Trump-whisperer flogged journalists for questioning whether his political views were authentic. His lawyers had argued in court that the vitriolic comments he makes on his InfoWars show amounted to little more than satire, comparing him with comedian Stephen Colbert or radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh.
That argument succeeded in keeping some of Jones more offensive on-air comments away from the ears of the jury, which on Thursday night awarded Jones and his ex-wife joint custody of their three children. Travis County judge Orlinda Naranjo said from the first day of trial that she wouldnt make the case about Jones politics or his radio show.
But the self-described Libertarian pundits legally expedient rebranding as a part-time political humorist fundamentally undermined his credibility. He clung to the argument, even while raging against it. In the news conference, as in the courtroom, Jones described roughly one-tenth of what he says on air as humor or satire.

Growing up hearing Alex Jones' views every night is growing up in an abusive home.

(129,468 posts)because they believe every word of the bullshit they spew 24/7. The inherent nasty attitude of the RW in general, that draws degenerates like him to the GOP, ensures an inability to "perform" without real hate being projected.

(14,176 posts)that they will STILL believe any new conspiracy theory he invents next for his audience.
AJ is gifted in a way with a very loud effective, almost soothing, voice. And he is bright, and not at a loss for words much. He has a twisted kind of talent as a powerful salesman. But he's also a dick. Like his buddy Donald. So he sells bullshit. Some of it I'm sure he believes, some he pretends to for the sake of ratings.
He uses that talent to invent a character that will appeal to the basest most paranoid corners of the angry ignorant mind. Much like Glenn Beck. Heck all of them from Hannity to O'Reilly it is/was all about the show, and playing their parts to perfection, for big bucks. Damn if their lying causes misinformation to spread and people getting overly emotional hearing these lies. They don't seem to care, the money is too good.
This admission should cause his subscribership to drop like building 7. How will they know if what he is saying is only a part of his act as an "artist"? That's what you'd expect from any normal audience. But what we have here is a new kind of audience. It is fully brainwashed and hungry for any kind of fix to prove they were right about everything all along.

(129,468 posts)he sounded and acted like Limbaugh - copying the voice and style but taking the subject matter into another direction, i.e., the extreme CT (with shades of acting like a RW Art Bell or any of the later hosts of Coast-to-Coast like Noory). Also similar to how RW hosts like Mark Levine copied the style and bombastic delivery of old-school (now deceased) NYC RW talk radio host Bob Grant.
These folks spew their hate and vitriol and then hide behind the moniker of "entertainment". Political "entertainment" is someone like the amazing Phil Hendrie. But Jones & Beck and their ilk have shows that are touted as straight "politics/news" shows, not "entertainment" shows (although Beck's TV/streaming show provided the "entertainment" when he used to use that blackboard). So they got lumped into the same category as some of the few intellectual conservative political talkers like John Batchelor.
This line-blurring is part of why this country is in such a divisive state - for those following the news, not knowing truth from fiction and then inadvertently spreading misinformation to those not following current affairs.

(14,176 posts)I knew there must be some school or person that style that Rush and Jones use came from.
But you brought up another topic that I used to care about. I loved listening to Art Bell at night on Coast to Coast. He generally tried to stay out of politics, other than the governments interference in getting the truth out about UFOs and abductions. He respected all callers and their stories no matter how bizzare. He did that as an honest approach to his show.
Then came Noory. I just couldn't listen to him for long. Firstly he carried on Bell's belief to accept all callers but you can tell he has no respect for callers but plays along because that is in his contract. There is no curiosity there at all.
But the worst was when he started having on Tea Party reps and libertarian survivalists who would rail on and on about government conspiracies (from Democrats and the left). I rarely listen to much of it anymore but when I do flick over I noticed he now has regular spots on his show for InfoWars commentators.
Coast to Coast used to be a show I could turn on at night with Art Bell and get away from the Earthly political complications to escape with sci fi fantasy and hear astounding unbelievable stories, or are they?.... Art Bell was Coast to Coast. The show died with him.

(129,468 posts)since the '70s and got me listening too since then. Used to listen to Art Bell and Jim Bohannon (both had those graveyard shift shows). Followed Art's drama when he moved to the Philippines and then tried to make a comeback more recently. I guess the world is just not the same because inevitably, a caller will try to overtly bring politics into every generic subject.
Since the '90s when the RW bought bundles of stations and syndicated their RW crap everywhere, they systematically eliminated much of the general interest talk in a number of markets (e.g., gardening shows, DIY shows, etc). The radio airwaves have become vast swaths of hate. I have been subbed to SiriusXM since 2007 to at least get some liberal talk and other programming, but I long for the day when "over the back fence" talk radio returns.
