Sea Shepherd says founder faced Japan extradition

Sea Shepherd says founder faced Japan extradition
2 hours ago

The environmental group Sea Shepherd says its founder Paul Watson risks being sent to Japan if a German court extradites him to Costa Rica.

Watson was arrested May 13 at Frankfurt Airport on a Costa Rican warrant over a 2002 incident but released on bail several days later pending an extradition decision.

U.S.-based Sea Shepherd confirmed Thursday that Watson skipped bail earlier this week and is now "in an undisclosed location."

The group says it has "reason to believe from a reliable source that, once in Costa Rica, the Japanese government may have sought extradition of Captain Watson to Japan to answer charges related to obstructing their illegal whaling activities in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary."

"The group says it has "reason to believe from a reliable source that, once in Costa Rica, the Japanese government may have sought extradition of Captain Watson to Japan to answer charges related to obstructing their illegal whaling activities in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary." "

So Japan wants to prosecute Watson for obstructing their illegal whaling activities? WTF? Why is no one prosecuting Japan for illegal whaling? There would be no need for Sea Shepard if countries obeyed the law.

I've never understood why other countries don't sanction Japan for their illegal whaling. Also Japan used millions of dollars donated for earthquake relief for illegal whaling. Personally I would have a difficult time helping Japan if they have another natural disaster.

He left Greenpeace in 1977 to set up the more action-oriented Sea Shepherd. The group has waged aggressive campaigns to protect whales, dolphins and other marine animals, prompting Japanese officials to labels its member terrorists.

You dare too bring the worlds attention to illegal whaling and you are now a "terrorist?"

Are the Japanese really terrorized at the thought of not eating whale flesh?

as he does with all of them

He does this a few more time and he could end up being the focus of an Interpol notice.

Then he can to the L. Ron Hubbard thing and just stay at sea continuously to avoid legal problems.

Japan sought whale activist's arrest in Germany

By FRANK JORDANS, Associated Press – 1 day ago

BERLIN (AP) — Japan asked Germany to arrest Paul Watson, the founder of environmental group Sea Shepherd, days before he skipped bail and apparently fled the country.

The Japanese embassy in Berlin confirmed in a statement to The Associated Press on Thursday that it submitted its request to German authorities July 19.

Three days later Watson — who was on €250,000 ($320,000) bail in Germany pending a separate extradition request from Costa Rica — last reported to authorities.

Watson and his group have repeatedly clashed with fishing fleets they accuse of illegally hunting whales, sharks and other endangered sea animals.
