Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on Thursday denounced President Trumps decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement, vowing that city departments will continue to work under the principles of the accord.
Climate change is a fact of life that people in Los Angeles and cities around the world live with every day, Garcetti said in a statement, not long after Trump held a news conference saying the U.S. was pulling out of the historic global pact that aspires to stop global warming. It is a grave threat to our health, our environment, and our economy and it is not debatable or negotiable.
Garcetti said Los Angeles will continue to live by the principles of the accord and will continue working with other cities in the U.S. on issues related to warming.
Garcetti said hes working with Los Angeles City Council members on a motion instructing the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and other city departments to adopt the principles of the Paris Climate Agreement as the policy of the city of Los Angeles. According to a statement from the mayors office, Council members Nury Martinez, Paul Koretz and Paul Krekorian joined in the motion.
