Bill Cosby arrives at first day of trial with Keshia Knight Pulliam
Source: Salon
Although the seeds of his fall from grace were planted decades ago, Bill Cosbys long-awaited sexual assault trial begins today at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
Cosby was joined by Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played his fictional daughter Rudy Huxtable on the classic sitcom The Cosby Show, according to a report by The New York Times. Knight Pulliam was quoted as saying that truth happens here, an expression of solidarity for the man who once played her father.
Despite the fact that women have accused Cosby of sexually assaulting them all the way back to the 1960s, the sole issue in the upcoming trial is an alleged incident in 2004, according to a report by The New York Times. In that year, Cosby is accused of having drugged and sexually assaulted Temple University employee Andrea Constand.
The trial, which is expected to last roughly two weeks and is being presided over by Judge Steven ONeill, will pivot on three points. Constand herself will testify regarding her account of the events in question from 2004; a second woman who says she was sexually assaulted by Cosby in 1996 will provide her version of events; and Cosbys admission in 2005 that he purchased quaaludes for his sexual encounters will be analyzed.

-----------
Most of his 50+ accusers can't testify, but he can pack the room with sitcom cast members.
TV daughter Rudy must really want those rerun checks.
------------
Word is his sitcom wife, Phylicia "Forget these women" Rashad, is also planning to attend:

Is the defense strategy to turn this into The Trial of Cliff Huxtable?

(7,530 posts)I don't see anything wrong if his co-star wants to support him through an obviously bad time for him.
It may be misguided, but it's her support to give. It's possible to support a person but not their actions. He will be determined guilty or innocent whether his TV daughter decides to hold his hand or not.

(36,865 posts)BTW, I saw your book at Menards awhile ago (I think I made a thread about it in the lounge during your absence). I wasn't even looking in the book area... I mainly recognized it from afar due to the cover. It IS a great cover!

(104 posts)I don't know. Last thing I remember, I was at Mr. Cosby's house this morning and he fixed my some coffee. When I regained consciousness, I was in the courtroom with him.

If Keshia wants to attend this trial, she is a citizen of the United States and can do so. Her attending the trial has little or nothing to do with "rerun checks." Check your privilege.
Signed: Not a Bill Cosby Fan In The Least, However, Going There On Keshia Knight-Pulliam or Phylicia Rashad ain't going to fly with us, African-American Folks.

We don't have to like someone's actions to be there for them.

(14,093 posts)Maybe Cosby should have taken his own advice from the "Pound cake" speech and not have been giving drugs to women in the first place.
Take your "privilege" talk and shove it up your ass.
Supporting a friend is one thing - but statements like "forget these women" is where you cross the line into being morally reprehensible.

(7,006 posts)Ms. Knight-Pulliam and Mrs. Rashad have the right to support whom they like. It does not mean anyone has to agree with it, however, to say that they are doing so to obtain "rerun checks" is highly offensive and certain folks need to Double Check their Privilege, at the door.

(7,006 posts)But don't expect us "Black Folks" will not reply to any attempts to throw Ms. Knight-Pulliam and Ms. Rashad under the bus because THEY CHOOSE who to support, who THEY support.
They have that right, just like you have the right to comment on what you want.
However, stepping into the mud of they are supporting this individual due to "rerun checks" is flat out offensive on the surface and we have no problems stating that fact.

(7,006 posts)What the heck does "Rerun Checks" mean? Similar to "Welfare Checks"?
Did they not EARN their payments in the post-production work of the show both Women appeared on? Would anyone else not have a right to their post-production payments which are normally included in the business contractual agreement for actors and actresses?
Does it stop when a person included in the production is accused of a crime? Is this new or just "applies" to Ms. Knight-Pulliam and Ms. Rashad? What about other actors who appeared on the 1980's sitcom? Does the "Rerun Checks" "statement" apply to them?
Be careful before you step there as there were MANY Caucasian actors and actresses who appeared on "The Cosby Show"?
Here's the point. Who Ms. Knight-Pulliam and Mrs. Rashad choose to support is their business. If folks disagree with their decision, that is their business.
However, as an African-American, if We feel a Racial Issue line has been crossed, We will call it out. That is OUR decision.
Deal with it and "Rerun Checks" as it relates to Ms. Knight-Pulliam and Mrs. Rashad is beyond the line and if you cannot see that for any reason, Check Your Privilege!

The checks were likely a large chunk of her income and she lost them when reruns are pulled.
She has a financial stake in rehabbing the rapist's image.
Ditto Mrs. "Forget these Women" Rashad. Her entire entertainment name is based on two shows with Cosby, which are no longer reran.
They choose to ignore and mock 50+ women and allege a conspiracy to "destroy a legacy," and refuse to believe that their TV dad did it to himself when he gave drus, by his own admission, to women so he could fuck them.

(26,081 posts)It's "privilege" to rape at least half a hundred women and get away with it while people enable you. He is a rapist of teh worst kind, and KKP is educated, she isn't stupid, not is Rashad. This is about money. In addition, they have both mocked the victims, so they acn go to hell.
Your "privilege" comment is offensive to women, esp victims, and makes absolutely no sense in this context.
