Two of the men who carried out Saturday night's terror attack in London have been named by police.

Scotland Yard said Khuram Butt, 27, from Barking, east London. was known to police and MI5 but there was no intelligence to suggest an attack. The other attacker was named as Rachid Redouane, 30, from Barking.

The pair and one other man were shot dead by police after killing seven people and injuring 48.

They drove their hired van into pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing people in the area around Borough Market.

London Attack Suspect Known as ‘Abs’ Appeared in Film About Extremists

By CAMILLA SCHICKJUNE 5, 2017

LONDON — Everyone called him “Abs.” He gave out Halloween candy to children and taught them how to play Ping-Pong. He invited his neighbors to barbecue.

But Khurum Shazad Butt was not the typical resident of the East London neighborhood of Barking. He dressed in the religious gown of a conservative Muslim — with a tracksuit and sneakers underneath. He turned up in a Channel 4 documentary, “The Jihadis Next Door.” And now London’s Metropolitan Police have identified him as one of the three men who carried out the deadly terror attack on Saturday at London Bridge and Borough Market.

Mr. Butt and his accomplices drove a van onto the sidewalk of London Bridge, running over pedestrians, before jumping out of the vehicle and stabbing patrons at the bars and restaurants of Borough Market. They killed seven people and injured dozens before they were shot and killed by police less than 10 minutes after the rampage began.

It was the van that struck a chord with Ken Chigbo, one of Mr. Butt’s neighbors in Barking.

“He approached me about a week ago, making conversation, and found out I’m moving home,” Mr. Chigbo said on Monday. “He was just being polite. Then he said, ‘Look, Ken, where did you get your van from? How much did you pay? Do they do it in automatic?’ ”

Butt was featured in a 2016 documentary on the British Channel 4 called “The Jihadist Next Door” alongside members of a group that openly campaigned for Sharia law.

In one scene, which appears to have occurred in July of 2015, Butt can be seen praying with members of the group in front of a black flag. They are shown being confronted by police, and according to the documentary, were detained for an hour and released without any charges.

According to Alexander Meleagrou-Hitchens, research director of George Washington University's Program on Extremism, there are about three thousand people authorities considered possible threats, and this group was among the most extreme.

And think about May's comments about tolerating extremist ideology in this context. I gather she is not going to win the election, but if Corbyn does, he will have to deal with the same issues!

Hard to believe, but it is true.

Really, if you think about attacks in this country it is not different OK, with the San Bernadino jihadi bride, no one looked. But there were multiple warnings on the Boston Bomber bro from foreign governments, and it seemed everyone reported the Pulse shooter, including even a sheriff. The Florida airport shooter reported HIMSELF to the FBI, and was sent on his way.

The bottom line is that people walk around out there advocating this stuff for a while, and then they do it. But there are so many of them advocating this sort of thing it is not possible to monitor them individually, nor is it possible to round them up as a prevention measure.

It's relatively rare to have a person for whom there is little prior warning, like the Chattanooga guy. But even there, when you look closer there were some flags - just quiet, and more relating to foreign travel. No one had reported him to the FBI:

The whole prevention thing does not seem to work.
