Senators debate bringing in Comey for Round 2

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAIN CARNEY - 06/10/17 06:01 AM EDT

A key Senate panel is considering whether to step up its battle to meet with former FBI Director James Comey, who gave dramatic testimony this week to a competing committee.

Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are debating subpoenaing Comey to compel his testimony.

The move would mark a dramatic escalation of their effort to dig into Russia’s election interference and potential ties between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) told The Hill that she and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the committee, have discussed forcing Comey to appear before their panel.

...his legal strategic and tactical judgement is likely as good as it gets. If he gets a subpoena to compel his testimony it's because he invited it for a purpose.

Someone here posted a comment last night to the effect that Trump thinks he's engaged in a civil suit while Mueller/Comey are preparing a criminal prosecution. I agree and it's my hope that while Trump may win some PR battles here and there, Mueller/Comey are going to win the war. And when that happens, I expect there will be wide ranging negative implications for the broader republican party.

I just hope the wheels of justice grind fast enough to keep these asshats from destroying the country before they're turned to dust.

1. He made notes immediately after Trump asked him to drop the investigation while it was still fresh in his mind.

2. He told senior people at the FBI so he would have corroboration.

3. He gave a copy of his notes to a law professor who was former federal prosecutor.

In terms of the wheels of justice I think they will grind extremely slowly. Getting it right is more important that getting it done fast.

I'm sure many current and former federal civil servants are in awe of Comey's brilliant strategy and tactics. I know I am.

when he fires Mueller? Rosenstein refused to prevent that possibility.

In normal times, that action would be the end of T, but in these times ... ? Would Repubs step up then? Or would chaos continue to reign as 45 continues on his unhinged path?

I just cannot see T allowing this to play out, nor do I see Repubs forcing him to.

Or - it's my fear prevailing over hope at the moment.

He steers in a non-partisan way, leaves a little for each side, and caches the fine
and serious legal points in seemingly innocuous language. Some Republicans think
Trump is in the clear based on Comey's testimony. He really did nuance it all.
