ACLU Statement on Restrictions of Press Interviews in Capitol

June 13, 2017
WASHINGTON Senate staff has started barring reporters from recording video or audio interviews in the halls of the Capitol without permission, reversing decades of common practice.
American Civil Liberties Union Political Director Faiz Shakir had this statement:
Preventing the press from informing the public about the workings of their own government goes against the core values of our democracy. For decades, the Capitol building has been open for recorded interviews, which provide a critical window into the legislative process.
Closing the shutters now, while Congress is secretly considering a bill that would cause over 20 million people to lose health insurance, is utterly unreasonable and flies in the face of the First Amendment.

In their effort to hurt and kill as many brown poor people as they can, these vicious murderers running our country now WILL hurt many more white poor.....and they give a shit less about that fact. This is what a trumpite desired with their vote...they are getting, boy are they going to get it. And most are too stupid to realize it . ...oh well, I give a shit less.

(37,453 posts)Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., said Tuesday that the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration had not revoked the ability of television reporters to interview senators on camera in the Capitol Hill complex.
The Rules Committee has made no changes to the existing rules governing press coverage on Senate side of the Capitol complex, Shelby said in a statement. The Committee has been working with the various galleries to ensure compliance with existing rules in an effort to help provide a safe environment for Members of Congress, the press corps, staff and constituents as they travel from Senate office to the Capitol. Once again, no additional restrictions have been put in place by the Rules Committee.
