Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) responded to President Donald Trumps bizarre Friday statement that appeared to confirm hes the subject of an obstructive of justice investigation, urging Congress to take precautions against any presidential interference.
It has become clear that President Trump believes that he has the power to fire anyone in government he chooses and for any reason, including Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Schiff wrote Friday. That is not how the rule of law works, and Congress will not allow the President to so egregiously overstep his authority.
If President Trump were to try to replicate Nixons Saturday Night Massacre by firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in addition to Mueller, Congress must unite to stop him without respect to party, and for the sake of the nation, he continued.
Trump wrote on Twitter Friday that I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director. He has posted frequently this week about his displeasure with the federal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

(3,335 posts)I still will campaign, phone bank, and block walk for the candidates I like.
But, I would be lying if I told you that I wasn't discouraged, feeling defeated, and even depressed about what's happened. I know many other feel much of the same.
It's like the bad guy won.

(3,335 posts)Look at the damage he's done in the last 6 months already. Can you imagine another year and a half of this?

(49,036 posts)... the sooner before 2018 that Republican tRump goes.
Notice that in the post you replied to I wrote "to 2018", being short for "to their chances for 2018". I didn't write "in 2018" because you are right that Republican Trump is doing damage every day.
No judicial confirmations. Republican Trump is in the last year of his Presidency.

(4,363 posts)congress will be a democratic majority in 2018. Unfortunately, that's a looong way away at this time. I hope and pray our country and democracy can last long enough for the next national elections.

(13,058 posts)every time there is a slight or even a perceived slight against him.
Not only that, any slight, no matter how mild, or anyone who dares even to challenge him in a civil manner, is described by him as "VICIOUS". Case in point: When the Khans spoke out against him at the DNC, 45 said he was viciously attacked by Mr. Khan.
There are many other examples of this. His strategy is to play the victim and hit back twice as hard, much more viciously than the other party fired against him. This is how he's rallied his base time & time again. I'm waiting for that base support to collapse, and given his disapproval rating is at 64% it seems to be increasingly the case.
