Trump: If Russia interfered in election, why didn't Obama stop it?

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAN FABIAN - 06/22/17 09:48 AM EDT

President Trump on Thursday suggested he doesn’t believe that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, saying that if Moscow did, President Obama would have stopped it.

Trump’s comments are the latest indication he does not accept the intelligence community’s unanimous conclusion — released last October — that Russia tried to interfere in contest by hacking political groups and spreading fake news.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Tuesday refused to say whether the president believes that occurred.

“I have not sat down and talked to him about that specific thing. Obviously we've been dealing with a lot of other issues today,” he told reporters.

The comments come as Trump is battling a special counsel investigation into whether any of his associates colluded with the Russian meddling effort, which the president has repeatedly labeled a “witch hunt.”

For global-warming, the evolution is:
1. Global warming doesn't exist.
2. Global warming does exist, but it's not our fault.
3. Global warming does exist and is our fault, but it's not bad.

For Russiagate, the evolution is:
1. Russia did not hack the election.
2. Russia hacked the election, but it's Obama's fault.
3. It's actually good that Russia hacked the election.

A President cannot "stop" a foreign country from hacking and interfering. The intel services can, and Congress can. Before that can be done, there needs to be solid proof.

Congress is now doing something about it: Sanctions.

Obama issued Sanctions on Russia before he left, which Trump has made moves on lessening or removing.

I'd like to hear an answer from Obama on that.

It could have been that he was presuaded by intelligence orgs that it may interfere with their investigations.
It may have been pressure from the Hillary camp and the DNC that it would backfire and be used against them. And that because the Dems, along with everyone else, still thought they would win, that they would deal with it after.

I'd still like to know why he figured that raising the alarm of the threat to the very foundation of the democracy, was secondary to something else. Obama has strayed away from controversy to a painful degree during his term, and I wonder how much of it was that he didn't want to cause waves not only for Hillary, but for himself.
