CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three current or former Chicago police officers were indicted on state felony charges for allegedly engaging in a conspiracy in an attempt to prevent or shape an independent criminal investigation of the police-involved shooting death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
The charges were announced Tuesday by Patricia Brown Holmes, a Special Prosecutor appointed by Presiding Judge LeRoy K. Martin Jr. of the Circuit Court of Cook County Criminal Division.
Detective David March and Patrol Officers Joseph Walsh and Thomas Gaffney were each charged with conspiracy, official misconduct and obstruction of justice. The three-count indictment was voted Monday by a Cook County special grand jury.
"The indictment makes clear that these defendants did more than merely obey an unofficial 'code of silence,' rather it alleges that they lied about what occurred to prevent independent criminal investigators from learning the truth," Holmes said.

(38,448 posts)The cover-up has almost always succeeded in the past. But this time, these people have to face the music and face a trial. This type of trial has rarely happened in Chicago. Yes, people have been caught stealing and corruption, but covering up for police officers by police officers, and tampering with evidence..I don't remember anyone in Chicago ever being indicted for that....

(17,865 posts)the Burger King cameras. I always thought the forensic technician should have a look. It seems you could tell when a file was deleted, and then conclude, based upon the story of the manager and the time, that the cops were lying.

(28,811 posts)when they put up that blue line to obstruct justice you can't tell me we're talking about a few bad apples, we're talking about a toxic, racist culture of us versus them.
they should all be charged in these cases all the way to the fucking DA who refuses to put on a vigorous prosecution of murderous police.
