Collins says shell vote against new GOP health plan
Source: Bangor Daily News
WASHINGTON Senate GOP leaders plan to unveil a revised health-care proposal Thursday that would allow insurers to sell austere plans that do not comply with requirements imposed under the Affordable Care Act, according to three Republicans familiar with the plans.
The Republicans, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record, said the proposal would incorporate a version of a controversial proposal from Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, which conservatives have been pushing vocally during the last few weeks in an effort, they say, to lower premiums and give consumers more choices.
Sen. Susan Collins Tweeted on Thursday that she would not vote for the new Senate bill.

Still deep cuts to Medicaid in Senate bill. Will vote no on MTP. Ready to work w/ GOP & Dem colleagues to fix flaws in ACA.
Details of the proposal were closely guarded Thursday morning, and it was unclear what precise form the Cruz idea would take in the final bill.

(10,098 posts)I mean, you pay a cheap price for the policy but it doesn't cover anything or the copays and deductibles are astronomical. If someone is buying the cheapest policy they can, do you think they will be able to actually afford any care they receive? I'm thinking no.

(22,651 posts)Republicans want to do away with ACAs "healthcareDOTgov." website.
That's the government ACA website where -consumers- get EXCELLENT assistance with their healthcare plans, premium payments, coverage & billing issues & many other needs.

(10,098 posts)They should make these junk policies illegal somehow. Even when I first got insurance through my employer I didn't think I'd have to pay that much for the policy or actually using services. I was naive and dumb back then, now I'm not so naive, just mostly dumb.
My understanding is they also want to get rid of the ESBs in the policies that are offered, maybe the two are one in the same. Either way, I think everyone is going to get screwed over, even people who get insurance through work.

(9,426 posts)let all the politicians in DC sign up for it. Why aren't they? Too many pre-existing conditions? Too expensive? We should DEMAND and end to subsidies for healthcare for these millionaires, let them have what the rest of us have - chickenfeed. Expensive chickenfeed, too.

(13,871 posts)Remember Newt's stupid set of rules that did result in some GOP gains but then they never followed them?
The one provision that did make sense was saying that any bill passed by Congress had to apply to the members.
If that were the case - if they had to take the health care they are proposing - their plan would have never seen the light of day.
