A Democratic congressman invoked 1984 as part of a scathing critique of President Donald Trump Tuesday. Appearing on MSNBC, Rep. Denny Heck (D-WA) dropped the reference to the George Orwell classic while weighing-in on Trumps apparent desire to be rid of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
As we have seen repeatedly, (Trump) has a (sic) Orwellian impulse to create freedom out of slavery, ignorance out of strength, and war out of peace, Heck said. And who knows what it is hes gonna say or do as he pursues this course of action.
Heck was appearing on MSNBC in advance of Jared Kushners Tuesday appearance before the House Intelligence Committee, on which Heck serves. MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle asked Heck what he hoped to find out during Kushners testimony.
I guess Id like to know how he can look the American public in the eye and either himself or through his lawyers maintain theres no collusion given the fact pattern here. Given the fact that he had four meetings he failed to report with various Russians, including with the Russian ambassador, including with the CEO of a sanctioned Russian bank, including with a Russian government lawyer and money launderer. I guess Id like to know why it is he thinks he can keep changing his security application, the standard form 86. Not once, not twice, but according to open sources, three times. How often does he think he can do this? Frankly, I think he feels like hes on one of his father-in-laws golf courses, and he gets a mulligan on every single hole.
